Come on Darko, you know how this works. Anything Bernsie says or Steve says is the gospel for all Cub fans. We all believe it and repeat it every night before bed.

Remember what Sox fans were saying about Gordon Beckham? Me, either... they were probably all busy posting in the Cubs section.

Hate to break it to you Rip van Darkside but 90% of the country is either a media sensationalist or a boob

Oh you better believe Schwarber was the one who was specifically referenced on air as "Babe fucking Ruth" by #1 Cubs fan Dan Bernstein.

When he got caught on air--during transition, no less--trying to pass of Spiegel's sources as his own.

Schwarber needs to DH in the AL. that's not trolling or being a hater....he simply cannot play defense. He can ,however, hit.

His outfield ability is beyond awful and should not be out there any more.

He can definitely be serviceable in LF. But he's gonna have to learn to stay within himself and just make the routine plays. A guy like him should be playing a conservative left field.

The part that sucks is that could have and should have been avoided. A career OF has a better sense of avoiding the other OF.

Adam Eaton runs into a wall and he is a dip shit too grindy asshole. Kyle runs into another fielder and puts himself out the year he is a good fielder.

It was a bizarre move for the Cubs to try and make him into a catcher.

That only made sense if they wanted to trade him quickly to a team that would then consider his possibility as a catcher when valuing him.

two words. Adam Dunn.

What should have happened is Fowler should have called him off. That's what kills me...sure, he's not a great OF. That's why you brought Fowler back.

Who said that?

I posted the exact opposite above your post. Like it or not, if Outfielders want to stay on the field they should avoid running into things. Eaton, Schwarber, Harper whoever.

I disagree. A third catcher is a luxury and that's all they were trying to make him.

I think it was a backdoor way of keeping his bat in the lineup.

I talked to a guy who coached Kyle in the minors. His honest assessment: that kid will never be a catcher.

Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoche did not make for successful DH's in the American League. Agreed.

Schwarber is younger...I'd be more confident in his ability to switch, as he just has that more upside. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder had no problem moving over the AL. It's not that it can't be done....the White Sox are just bad at choosing the players to do so.

I don't know Schwarber's defensive history, but it's clear he's a disaster in the outfield in terms of safety and skills. He sure can hit, though.

he looks like what I would expect Urlacher to look like playing LF. In the wrong sport but enough athleticism to overcome some shortcomings. Dunn looked like Kruk trying to cover LF. And Dunn played LF for years. Kyle would have been ok in left.

Schwarber is good enough in left. He has enough athleticism to play out there. He will be fine after surgery, too. This isn't Football or Basketball. This is straight line running. The injury will probably mess up his swing more than it would affect him in the field.

Yes, that was an ugly collision. But Fowler didn't call him off. Fowler probably didn't expect him to actually be there. The fact that Schwarber was able to cover that much ground was pretty impressive.

Yea. Schwarber's injury has turned into a debate on whether he can play LF or not when the collision was mainly Fowler's fault.

There are two problems.

The first is that he was bad at it and it would have been a miracle if he became good at it.
The second is that he is too good of a hitter to let him get worn down by it over the years.

That time should have been spent working on being passable in the outfield from the very moment he was drafted.

Agreed. They should of squashed the whole catcher thing right away.

I thought you were referring to the plan to have him be a third catcher this year, not the original plan when he was drafted.

Agree in Schwarber's case but not always. Even if it wears them down, having a good offensive catcher is valuable.

So if Schwarber could be an average catcher, then it might be worth it.

I think you had to see if could play the position, if you were the Cubs.

It does show you the level of rainbow farting you get from the organization though because all you heard from Maddon and Theo was how well he was progressing as a catcher

I don't really think that but I thought my answer highlighted that there was a range of things they could have said between "he is an MLB catcher" and "he sucks"
