only one player contributing on this team, maybe two if you include Soler, is directly attributable to three years of tanking

can't find the thread, but we already did this, dolphin.

The Cubs lost for 3 years to save money AND re build. They could have done the process faster were they willing to spend extra money and they could have been competitive and gotten good picks.

However, that said I will take Bryant and Schwarber. And they waved the white flag to get Russell, so I'll take him too.

In the end, the only thing that will kill this team is not haveing gone for a kill shot and picking up Price and Estrada.

Help me understand why this is the 3rd year in a row the Sox will be drafting ahead of the Cubs.

Too funny. The entire roster is stocked with guys that are part of the plan:

Reasonably priced free agents- i.e. Hammel and Fowler.
Great trades- i.e. Rizzo and Russell
High priced free agents- i.e. Heyward and Lester
Drafted players- i.e. Schwarber and Bryant

The entire thing was torn down and built right from the ground up. They told you what they were going to do, and they are doing it.

Scouting
Drafting
Development
New revenue sources at Wrigley
Better facilities for players and fans
Better game management

If I was going to engage dolphin, I would point out that a contending team would not have signed Scott Feldman to a 1 year deal and definitely would not have traded him (for Jake Arietta) after the great first half he had.

But Im still waiting for gd to acknowledge the Cubs won the Rizzo-Cashner deal.

EDIT: Denis has a more complete argument.

The Cubs couldn't have been smarter about sticking to their plan in terms of trading away the only value on their roster for quality players. The best part is they found a lot of diamonds in the rough that are now producing. Almost their entire roster is attributable to "tanking".

I don't think anyone on the roster was here four years ago, except Rizzo. But he was still brought in by Theo, which still makes this ENTIRE roster attributable to Epstein and Hoyer and "the plan".

No it's classic trolling. We have so many great things to discuss about both teams in town, and yet we continue to see this crap.

Rodon was great last night. The Cubs hitting put the Reds out of their misery in no time.

We had an excellent discussion yesterday on the value of walks vs. singles, and it was all on display in that Cubs game. I think we're all glad baseball season is here!

No offense, denis, but you seem like the kind of guy who walks around the office telling his co-workers to smile.

The tanking helped but as a big market team should do, they eventually just got a really high payroll to win.

Nothing wrong with that, but losing for 5 straight years wasn't really needed to go out and buy half your starting lineup.

Losing for 5 years means you only have to buy 1/3 of your roster instead of 3/3.

The Cubs took Rondon in the Rule 5 draft.

They kept him on the roster despite the fact that he got his tits ripped off him to the tune of an 81 ERA+.

I guess that's something contending teams do all the time...

You have confused The(o) Plan with tanking. Tanking was only part of the plan.

I've only actually seen it once even though I posted it. I close my eyes each time it 'finishes.'

Gruesome.
