I told you guys Lackey would have a better year than Lester.

What?

Jon Lester currently has 20.1 IP over 3 starts, with a 2.21 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP.

John Lackey has been fine, but one start is only makes up one third of three starts. Overall, he has 19.2 IP, with a 3.66 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.

Lackey has been fine, but Lester has been better. Really good, even.

Oh no.....Lackey is my guy. I called for the Cubs to sign him. I defended him after his first start and said he will have many more good ones than bad and have a solid season and said he would set the tone for this series with a good outing tonight. You don't get to claim him as your guy after a great start against the highest scoring team in baseball going into the game. Nope.....he's my guy and don't you forget it.

I thought you wanted Zimmerman

Let's take a look at Lester Era-Whip in 3 months, I can almost guarantee that teams start bunting to him and stealing @ will..he's mentally weak.

I wanted Zimmerman over Heyward....which would have meant no Lackey.

I still don't like Lackey. One night doesn't change my opinion. Don't like Lester either. This rotation has one guy. Theo better have another move or two left.

They've already been bunting against him. And you can't steal first base.

Seriously? Man, some fans. 10-3 record and the best lineup in MLB and there are still whiners and complainers.
Theo will grab a big name starter in June/July.

I want a team that's bulletproof. I've been through too many wars. You may not understand, that's ok.

I'd be stunned if Epstein doesn't grab a legit #2

No doubt teams are dumb for at least not trying to pick their spots and have their fleas bunt on Lester more but it appears many folks have not witnessed most power hitters try and bunt.

Would I rather have Harper or Stanton or Goldy try and bunt off Lester or swing away...bunt please.
The odds of them getting down a good bunt that another fielder doesn't handle or Lester can't just underhand or spike to first aren't great.

If another team had a pitcher with a similar weakness do you really want Bryant or Soler laying down bunts every at bat?

I'm not saying every hitter or every at bat, I'm saying the guy is mentally weak and a couple bunts or steals here n there could really mess him up.

I wanted Zimmerman AND Lackey AND Denard Span, rather than Heyward and Zobrist. My choices would have been cheaper and substantially improved the rotation. Lackey was a bargain, as Span would have been too. I love Heyward's defense, but he just doesn't hit enough for that kind of salary.

I agree and I believe teams will try more and more to exploit his weaknesses if he does not improve upon them.

Let's not sleep on the start to the year Hammel has had. He may fade again after the All-Star break as he has the past 2 seasons, but he has a 0.75 ERA currently. If he has another great 1st half to help the team to a great start, they can deal with any decline after the break should it come. The team has been blessed with quality starts in most games, with starters going 6 or more innings in EVERY start. That is amazing. The ERA's suggest that anyone saying they have just 1 guy in the rotation of real quality, is just wrong.
