He looks like he's going to keep whatever he had going last year. If you're Theo what do you offer him right now if you're trying to sign him long term? 4/125? 5/150? He'll be 31 next year.

Wasn't the hang-up this Spring the years offered?

I believe he wanted 7 and the Cub don't want to go past 6.

If this continues, I can't see how he won't ask for 5-7 years at $30M a year. He can say he compares to Kershaw, Grienke and Baumgartner.

Isn't he tied up a couple more years under arbitration? Other teams can't offer him squat.

Yes he is. Just wondering if Theo wanted to lock him up what should he offer him.

His agent is not going to negotiate again till after the season. That was announced at the end of spring training after initial talks. Yes, 30 million a year minimum. Perhaps 35. But 7 years is too much. Pitchers are just too uncertain in terms of availability, due to injuries. Plus, natural decline has to be taken into consideration. Let's enjoy this year and see what transpires in the off season. He's here next season as well, no matter what.

The Cubs will go nowhere near $30M. He will be luck to get 16. No one is getting Greinke money while arbitration eligible.

Not now they won't. But after this season negotiations will begin in earnest. I think they will offer at least 30 million a season if he continues to dominate as he has over his last 20 starts. No way they let the best pitcher in the game get away.

Buy out the arbitration and give him 6 years 28-30 per. He'll take it.

I see your point but Theo and his buddies openly talk about "controlling" players at discount prices for however many years, etc. When the players have leverage why not squeeze as much as you can out of the same club that gleefully exploited your contract status for years and didn't look back on their way to the bank?

I say Ricketts goes and talks to Jake 1 on 1 without the agents and cuts a deal!

I wonder how large of a Lloyds insurance policy Jake has already taken out on himself.

I'd milk him for this year and next, and then let some other sucker give him the $200 million.

He knows he's part of the greatest team in history. He'll probably take huge discount just to be a Cub.

Which is why we're only talking $30M a year and not $50M a year.

Along with being the greatest pitcher currently in the game going through one of the greatest stretches in the history of the game, he is a .900 OPS hitter in 2016.

And David Ross currently has a higher OBP than Bryce Harper.
