Are the Cubs a victim of Theo's influence and greatness? Now that most of the National League is copying the Cubs and trying to lose on purpose, will the inevitable Cubs championship be tainted because so few teams are trying? The Cubs' last NL championship was tainted by WWII and the 4-F roster that beat up teams whose best players were fighting for America. Not to mention the tainted championship of 1908 where a rule that had never been enforced was suddenly honored to the Cubs' advantage and the everlasting shame of poor Fred Merkle. So we know the Cubs have a history of tainted championships.

KC/Dayton Moore did the tank for a decade to stockpile cheap talent before making a run at the playoffs thing before the cubs.

Both did it/are doing it by focusing on drafting position players. Running counter to the usual pitchers first model.

Houston tanked for several years too. But they made pitching their priority more so. While the lower tier teams may be inferior, the top tier teams in the National league are loaded. To get past teams like the Mets, Cardinals, Pirates, Diamondbacks and Nationals, the Cubs will have to earn it. No easy path to the World series.

They have no other excuse to try. Fast start for Sox is fantastic I am all for it. Have enjoyed watching them play so far. I wish them well. But no way they keep this up over an extended period of time. Mat Latos is going to fail at some point soon. No depth of position players on roster. Danks in the rotation come on dudes? Really? Bubble gonna burst soon probably in the next week or two. Rollins is looking good but how long? Too many ????? I had them at 81 wins at best and will not be far off at the end of year.
