I think John Fox gets the benefit of the doubt here.

True, Miller and Peppers were consensus top 3 picks. Both could've easily gone #1 overall.

Both ended up going 2nd overall to Carolina QB's.

Thats a great catch Hussra. I doubt that anyone will predict that Floyd will be as great a player as Peppers and Miller, but if he gets close we all owe Pace an apology.

While I guessed Does, its the scheme that Foxx wants. EAT THE QB. makes secondary much better.

There was one thing I read that had me feeling even slightly better about this pick.

In San Francisco, apparently a lot of Aldon Smith's sacks where him just running unabated to the QB and wreaking havoc. Not even a blocker to get in his way, just boom boom backfield. Basically all that requires is a serious amount of burst and speed. I can see how Pernell McPhee, LaMarr Houston and Willie Young may have left a few sacks on the table because none of them really have that kind of athleticism. If there's one thing Floyd has it is the burst to capitalize on the times the defense puts him in that perfect position.

Seems kind of silly to drop a #9 overall pick on a guy with that particular niche and not a whole lot else. I cant imagine he's going to do well against the run, or do anything if he has to contend with any sort of competent blocker that he cant just outrun. But I'm guessing he's gonna rack up the sacks like crazy and everyone will assume its because he's such a beast.

You have me on the bandwagon now. I expect nothing less than 130 tackles and 14 sacks.

He seemed to be ok against the run in his senior year. They had to have moved him to mlb for a reason
