This is an inneresting article. Not terribly surprising most of the contestants gain all the weight back.

Then fucking eat less! Look if you're daily maintenance requirement is 500 cals lower than normal that means you can probably skip a whole meal and be just fine. Of course the root problem with these people, and about half if all Americans, is that they never broke their addiction to food and (given the chance) will revert right back to a 400 lb lifestyle.

I'm guessing its pretty hard to go around feeling like you're starving all the time. I know if I'm an hour late for lunch I start to get very irritable...

One of the tough things about swimming is that even though it's great exercise, it makes you feel really hungry afterward, enough to offset the workout and then some. I can run and not need to eat any time soon, but 30 laps (1500 yds) and all I wanna do is eat everything imaginable.

Some non-swimmers have that feeling all the time.

So dropping 10-20 pounds a week isn't a good recipe for long term weight loss?

I'm guessing one of the biggest obstacles in the overeating / unhealthy eating problem is lack of preparation. It's really not hard to eat properly if you plan your meals out. Cook most of your meals for the week on Sunday, then take the meals out to reheat each day. When you're left to your own devices for lunch and dinner it's just too damn easy to stop for fast food. Problem is that approach is hard to do and takes some work and thought and for whatever reason be it too busy or too lazy most people will find an excuse not to do it that way and just order a pizza .

All healthy food sucks. That's the biggest issue. Why would you eat anything else when you can eat pizza?

I don't think it's healthy to drop 20 pounds in one week. Unless, you cut off your foot, or some other appendage.

I think the article is intimating that they could eat nothing but carrots and would still gain weight (plus they'd turn orange).

So...the trick is keeping resting metabolism higher. This makes perfect sense. Some people can eat anything and not gain weight and not work out as much as people who may still gain weight...it's all about resting metabolism.

That is why people that go to the gym as well as watch what they eat do better. Taking in less calories is one half. Building muscle mass is the other. Lean muscle burns more calories than fat.

My neighbor's brother won a couple of seasons ago (Toma). He's likely approaching where he was before the show.

I love junk food, but this is not true. Fresh fruits are awesome. I also eat lots of broccoli even if its not deep fried in chocolate sauce. Fish and chicken, depending on how they are cooked, are also considered healthy.
