When I saw this thread posted, I assumed Chris sale went out and purchased a Timex with Cy Young's image on the face of the watch. A thread about a player possibly winning any award when they are just 1 month into a season is pretty silly.

I think Lester once won a Cy Young on one of my MLB the Show seasons.

I was comparing Arrieta and Sale and it really stands out just how bad the Sox defense was last year and what that improvement has meant for Sale.

Sale's K rate has dropped from from 11.89 to 7.89 while his ERA has almost gone down 2 full runs. Has BABIP was a ludicrous .323 and is now at .207. Seeing what he is doing with a competent defense, he would have a Cy last year if this was his defense.

You're making the argument that his statistics will regress.

We'll see Sale around 2.30 - 2.50 ERA for the season. He is an ace.

Well I doubt Sale will go undefeated, so regression is likely. But he is a sick good pitcher. And the defense appears to be a plus this year instead of a constant source of extra outs.

you mean a 50% reduction in strikeouts could be a warning sign?

A pitcher's W-L record can have little to do with his on the field accomplishments.

For future reference, when I'm mentioning a pitcher's statistics...successes...failures...I'll never be referencing a W-L ratio.

.323 is closer to normal than .207.

Correct. Which means last year's Sale is more "Sale" than this year's Sale.

Sale's metrics through the first month show that he won't maintain his current 1.66 ERA for the season. Many of his metrics are right at the norm besides his BABIP, which is way below the normal. One can reasonably expect those balls to find holes / gaps...unless the White Sox have an historic five man outfield and seven man infield.

Good. $100.00 work for you? I might bet more, but an authority no less than FavreFan has called this a virtual lock.

You can keep on making bad posts but it doesn't make us forget about the previous bad posts.

Not trolling , i was just shocked to see it that it ever that high. Both him and Quintana were about .320, I blamed that more on a horrible immobile defense than merely bad luck.

Becoming a coward would have involved not making a wager with Walt Williams Neck, who is a poster I have been familiar with for years. If you want to also make a bet on Sale winning the Cy Young, they have these things called sports books in Vegas. Feel free to visit one. I make bets with whomever I want to. Not whomever invites themselves into it.

You're not wrong. The White Sox defense was bad last year.

But .207 is ridiculous. Similar to Arrieta's .188 or whatever BABIP he has in 2016 so far.
