Maybe someone has seen some of his defense?

Not sure if you are being serious or not, but glove-wise......yes, he is. great glove, great arm.

He is going to move Bryant to CF

I can see that next year. But I don't see Maddon sitting Fowler in the NLCS and playing Bryant out there now. Fowler was what? 3rd in the league in runs scored and had a solid NLDS. But after he signs elsewhere and Bryant can have a full spring playing out in CF, it would make sense.

Now now...next year, when Fowler gets $90 mill from.......hmmm...........The Reds!

I can see it next year, yeah. Fowler may be having a great run since the All Star game, but he was close to being benched before that point. There is a reason why he had a .250 batting average....he was pretty bad for a long stretch in May and June. He's a good player, but not indispensable. the question becomes, who do you bat leadoff? Coghlan? Castro did it for a couple seasons, but not a great OBP guy. Not sure they have a real leadoff hitter. With Schwarber, Soler and Bryant in the OF, Coghlan is probably just a 4th outfielder, if he isn't dealt.

I think Castro gets traded in the offseason and Baez will be the everyday 2B.

Have to give the kid a ton of credit for turning into a respectable big league hitter. I did not think he could do it.

This cat is a ballplayer. Those hands are so quick. Doing work at the plate and in the field. It's been fun watching him figure it out.

"The future is so bright I got to wear my"Deshaies alluding to, "man, that guys does some glove work...I dont know what it is, but when he is on the field, he does stuff"

Yes, it is the color commentary of a guy who just took 3 bong hits, buts he is right.

Been saying it since 2 years ago? When Castro had to sit for a while and you watched Castro warm up at short, it was obvious he was so much better. He might even be better than Addy, but if Baez can play other positions, you dont move Addy out.

The bat has been CALM, so far this year. No display of power, but disciplined. Love when he chases the high stuff....and gets it. It's shows he still has the goofy in him and I bet Joe sits there and says "Nooooo....good hit"

I like the spirit this guy plays with. He just seems like he loves the game and plays with enthusiasm. He plays good defense wherever they put him and has the best arm of all the infielders. Now that he's hitting for average, he has to get more and more opportunities. The biggest problem becomes who to sit on a given day, so Baez can play.

If he didnt have every piece of armor invented for baseball on him to remind me of all the injuries, might even like him more. Protective wristguard, forearm guard, mouthguard, shinguard. He gets to first base and needs to stop the game to change into his hand sliding guards.

Why not just leave him as the everyday second baseman and make Zobrist the utility everyman?

The organization is rewarding Zobrist for his decade of toiling as the utility everyman, for better or worse.

He signed with the loose promise that he would be the Cubs' everyday second baseman.

Based on what Zobrist is getting paid...I think he should be happy wherever Maddon places him.

Don't see why Zobrist with his .390 OBP should be flipped to utility role. It nice having that on-base with 11% K rate in the line up everyday.

If anything, put Baez in the outfield more often and have moneybags as the 4th outfielder. He can regain his spot once his deadass feels decides to contribute.

There are things Zobrist offers that are valuable. In a situation where you need to move a runner, or get a run in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, Zobrist is a good bet to get those things done. He also see's a lot of pitches. He works the count and makes the pitcher work. That is true for Heyward too, even if the at bats for him wind up being less productive. With Baez's arm, I really like him better on the left side. The problem becomes putting Bryant in LF rather than 3B where he prefers to play, or at SS and sitting Russell (who has been scuffling a bit with the bat), which might erode his confidence. But if they keep Baez moving around and give him a day at 2nd, SS, 3rd and perhaps a day in the OF, he gets enough action to be sharp without having to take anyone's job. Good problem.

What's the difference? All I'm saying is let Zobrist play one day at second, one day at third, one day in left, one day in right and maybe one day at short...he'd be in the lineup virtually everyday and he's proven he's competent at all those positions. Might be good for Baez to be played at only one or two positions so he can concentrate on improving at the plate.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But I think that when they negotiated with Zobrist, they agreed he was going to be the everyday 2nd baseman. To his credit, Baez seems very willing to jump around and play anywhere and has done a good job wherever they put him.

Zobrist had knee issues last year. Sounds odd he feels more comfortable at 2B with dudes trying to spike his legs but I guess it's better than ACL Assassin Fowler ending your career.

ACL assassin?

As much as I wish Schwarber were a part of the mix, if I had to choose between a healthy Schwarber and the current edition of Dexter Fowler, I would have to choose Fowler. He plays a crucial position and has played it well, is the team's only true leadoff hitter and getting on base almost half his at bats, hitting the crud out of the ball and stealing bases to boot. The guy has got to be a top MVP candidate right now.

Fowler will not be in the MVP conversation by the end of the season...dial it back a little Steve

I agree that is HIGHLY unlikely. But so far, he has been a top player this season. The fact that he is on a salary run this season bodes well for continued production though.

Baez has been a fantastic player in the "first guy off the bench" role and I'm happy to see it but Zobrist is clearly the better player.

GREAT play by Baez to get the questionably coifed John Jaso on a slow roller down the 3rd base line!!

Baez just almost took a half assed golf swing out to center. He does have some power.

Baez is doing really well in this current role and the team is playing great. No need to mess with anything.

Baez is a young player and they make mistakes. He may or may not suck but needs a full year of playing time to tell and he is a part time player on this roster so the process is slowed a bit. WAIT.
