They sat him because he blows! Hell,I bet this farmhand Kalish can get more base knocks if given a few starts. I know it's a long season, but so far pencil me in as "not impressed."

I hope it was the wrist. Certainly unimpressive at the plate so far.

I assume he'll be right around what his numbers were the last few years and that'll be fine.

I think he was hurt. But I also think a few days off wasn't a horrible idea. Heyward is not a very good hitter. He's probably going to finish in the .260-.270 range with about 12-15 HR and 60-70 RBI. But he will walk enough to have a good OBP, run the bases well and play great defense. Doesn't add up to the contract they gave him in my eyes, but that was the guy Theo wanted. I get that he makes every pitcher a little better with his defense and he works the count as a hitter as they want batters to do. But that was just way too much for a Punch and Judy hitter. Zimmermann AND Span for less money= better idea.

You keep repeating this and conveniently never mention this would mean no Fowler, the team's offensive MVP through 15% of the season.

Meanwhile, the pitching staff has been top notch.

Zimmermann hasn't faced anyone. Out of his 5 games, he faced one decent offense in Pittsburgh.

He faced the Yankees and Royals which are 1-2 for least runs scored in the AL, Minnesota (4th) and Oakland.

Fowler so far has turned out to be the best off season signing for the Cubs!

I wasn't big on Heyward but I think he'll come around. He was injured and trying to live up to his contract.

I'm thinking Zimmerman would have been a good signing.

Classic pasta.

jimmy, you've got little Tommy LaStella getting good playing time. Take your victories where you can get them.

Agreed. Soler should play VS lefties for Heyward. My God, he looks lost against southpaws.

Heyward was the ONLY position player in the lineup without a hit (with 2 strikeouts and 2 groundouts) today.

Fowler
LaStella
Bryant
Rizzo
Zobrist
Russell
Heyward
Federowicz or Ross
Arrieta

This would be better tomorrow.

Nice gif....

This isn't about me choosing better free agents. This is about dealing with the hand we now hold and batting Heyward lower in the order to avoid screwing up rallies is what this is about.
