Orie probably should have been charged with an error on that hit.

How come no one called out the Cubs' scorer?

I was at Zambrano's no hitter in Milwaukee against the Astros and it was not nearly as dominant as Kerry Wood's performance in his 1 hit 20K day. I know it might seem like blasphemy, but I think it was better than either of Arrieta's no-hitter's as well. Total domination.

Pitchers I have seen throw the most dominant games:

Kerry Wood
J.R. Richard
Nolan Ryan
Jake Arrieta
Steve Carlton
Bob Gibson

Kerry Wood had a heck of a career. I just wish he could have stayed healthy and seen more. I liked the way he ended it though, with a strikeout. Might have seemed cornball, but I'm okay with cornball stuff now and then.

Why you gotta bring up Kevin Orie?

In all seriousness, I was deluded enough back then to think Orie would wash away the bad memories of the Gary Scott era.

Yep...It should have been called an error.

I came home for lunch that day, set down for the beginning of the game end never got off the couch. That curve ball was ridiculous.

So you are telling me that Zambo's no hitter against an 86 win team that just got hurricaned out of Houston the night before and had to fly to Milwaukee to play a home game against a 95+ win team where Zambo probably stuck out 5 dudes was less dominant than Kerry Wood punching out 20 dudes in a one hitter against a 102 win team with a pythag of 106 wins with at least two HOF dudes in the lineup and a bunch of other thunder in the lineup?

Glad you were there to give us your expert shit for hat opinion.

I'm sure DeWayne Wise would have made the play.

So you are 70 years old. That explains a lot. Gibson? Really?

DeWayne Staats should have had the call.

Ray Fontenot should have been pitching. Or maybe Dan Serafini.

Surprised to see Richard and Gibson on your list...thought you would have Phil Humber and Derek Lowe instead

In his defense, how can possible pitching the greatest game of all time not count for anyone's peak. Add that game to any other pitcher, it would be their peak.

Yeah Gibson really. I was there in 1971 for the Cubs opener when Gibson and Jenkins faced each other and both went the distance in a 10 inning game where Billy Williams hit a homer in the bottom of the 10th to win the game. One of the best games I ever saw pitched. Jenkins and Maddux missed my list though 2 of the better pitchers of my lifetime, they didn't have quite the electric stuff of the guys I named. Never saw Sandy Kofax pitch in person, but watching film of him, I wish I had.

Are you ever happy? Why would you be focusing on a negative event, when all is mostly right in the Cubs world....save for the injury to Schwarber, and perhaps signing the wrong outfielder.

They signed a 30+ year old OF to a one year 16MM contract and he's currently leading the world in OBP. Seems like the signing is working out alright...

That was not the wrong one to sign. Obviously I was referring to Heyward.

So 30 games into an eight year contract you're passing judgement on the deal?

Seems reasonable...
