I fucking loathe Cameron, but the part about Quintana being one of the best pitchers in baseball now is spot on. If Q was on the Cubs they'd be building a 200 foot statue of him on top of the Wilson ave crib.

I think both sides of the W/L debate tend to take it to an obnoxious degree, but I'm in the camp that thinks you can't be considered a great pitcher if you can't win more than half your games. If Q keeps winning this year I'm fine with calling him one of the best pitchers in baseball. He was not one of those last year or the year before.

The other thing to consider is the small sample size. Jason Hammel was outstanding in each of the past 2 seasons in the first half. Then he was pretty mediocre in the 2nd half of each season. This year he's off to a great start, similar to Quintana actually. but you won't hear Cubs fans saying he's a great pitcher. We might say he's off to a great start again, but a guy has to put together some full season's before he can be called an outstanding pitcher. Quintana like Hammel, has yet to put together a great full season.

You should read the article. Quintana has been one of the better pitchers in baseball for a long time now, he's been doing it longer than your prized Arrieta (and he's been doing in a tougher league, and he's a lefty, and he's 4 years younger than Arrieta, and he's cheaper... so on and so on).

If you think you can make JORR's W/L argument even 1% as convincingly as JORR can you've got another thing coming. It'll be like Wesley Willis trying to play Chopin. You aren't qualified to make it and you'll embarrass yourself if you try.

the fact that Cubs fans didnt immediately leap on the Quintana's positive test when he was with the Yankees while we were tearing Arrieta apart just shows how little they know about the game.

I'm not saying Quintana is not a GOOD pitcher. Hell, I had suggested the Cubs investigate a trade for him. He's got a lifetime 3.36 ERA and has NEVER had a season with an ERA under 3.32. NEVER. He is off to a nice start, but it's very likely he will revert back to the numbers he has put up year in and year out. Good, not Cy Young great though.
