Cubs OF Matt Szczur was placed on the 15-day DL with a mild hamstring strain which he injured on Monday night. Ryan Kalish was added to the 40-man roster and recalled from Triple-A Iowa to take his place.

Ryan Kalish being a member of the Cub again is something I never even considered happening. And what's crazier is that if Murton wasn't hurt, it might have been him who was reunited with the parent club.

Sports are strange sometimes.

How long will Kalish have to be on the roster before a statue of him is erected?

Are you kidding? There's already erections taking place for those who want him to succeed and those that want him to fail.

It's all an erotic game here on CSFMB.

Can we count on your attendance for the first of many Jeimer Candelario appreciation ceremonies in 2017?

If by attendance you mean the comfort of my couch, yes.

Then if they go on to win the title, your guy Murton (the ginger haired assassin) could have gotten a ring! Gotta hope he's a September call-up if nothing before.

Sports Mockery Relaying A Rumor Via TerezOwens.com

“A source close to the situation tells us the Angels and Chicago Cubs are in early discussions to make a blockbuster trade for superstar outfielder Mike Trout. The 24-year-old outfielder is owed $15.25 million this year, $19.25 million next year and $33.25 million each of the following three years. The deal would be Mike Trout for 5 of the Chicago Cubs top prospects.”

Again, trust Terez Owens if you want to, but if you remember he was right about Patrick Sharp… Owens has informed us that the information comes from a “MLB inside source” he has a lot of trust in.

And MLB Daily Dish With What It Would Take....

The deal: Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Kyle Schwarber, Gleyber Torres, Duane Underwood, Billy McKinney, and Dan Vogelbach The rationale: This deal could actually do it and the Cubs wouldn’t even feel the loss other than in depth and in the farm. They’d be acquiring a 10-win player that would push Dexter Fowler into a corner outfield spot for bench players and a fraction of their farm which includes three top-100 prospects.

I would think they would want more then that. Bryant or Russell would have to be involved in the trade. If not then you make that trade and throw in the Schwarber's HR ball in RF to sweeten the pot.

i posted a similar idea on a thread on the SB Nation's cubs blog back when that stupid story came out about Ryan Braun. Other posters dismissively mocked me, because it wouldn't be consistent with "the plan." They seem to have forgotten that Theo went and traded Nomah! to the Cubs in order to get the pieces he wanted in 2004.

This seems like precisely the big scrotum move that Theo will try and pull off. The Angels farm system is horrible, and they'd get 4 every day starters and a guy who could DH on days when Schwarber catches or plays LF.

The idea of Rizzo providing lineup protection for Mike Trout...

Schwarber should never catch or play LF again.

Bryant
Schwarer
Baez
Soler
Any 3 Cubs prospects

That's where discussion for Hall of Famer Mike Trout even START.

Torres, Schwarber and Baez could all be guys with really good to great careers. But Scwarber is a guy perhaps best utilized as a DH and currently Baez has no spot to start daily and Torrez while an outstanding prospect, is unproven at this point. To get a player of his caliber would be pretty amazing. But it would deplete the team of some depth obviously.

I do agree that Trout needs to be traded to revamp the club..there is no way in hell the Angels are interested in Baez and Soler in the package.. Baez and Soles don't have much value..look at the haul Shelby Miller was moved for...Trout > Miller. Anaheim will want pitching back, the Cubs don't have it. This deal is DOA.

Wow Trout in a Cubs uniform is crazy to even think about, but I don't see the Angels doing such a deal unless it involved either Bryant or Russell

No they dont meathead, Its May 14th and Baez will finish the season at .250 and .306 obp..with less than 13 homers and the errors will pile up if he plays.. Soler = Avi Garcia.

The Angels won't give up Trout unless they absolutely pillage a team's system.

Soler and Baez aren't even close to being enough. Add in a top guy from the big league club and a couple other top prospects including a pitcher or 2.

Wrong. They would probably trade him straight up for Soler.

I saw a rumor that Joe Nathan flew into town this morning to have a nice, quiet chat with the Cubs.

Cubs looking to up the average age of the club to over 30 by adding Nathan?

Yes, trying to increase their AARP ... Age Above Replacement Pitcher.

Moves last year with Rafael Soriano and Fernando Rodney were kind of along the same lines. Rodney worked out pretty well and is having a good year with the Padres this season. Soriano was a disaster. I see no problem with investigating Nathan, but I think a good left handed specialist is a more pressing need.
