Chus is spot on here, Ventura never panicked or got nuts. He, instead, bided his time and eventually worked an early deficit into a total victory. He used is brains and flight smart, just like he does in the dugout for your 1st place Chicago White Sox.

Ryan had control early, but Robin overtook him. Ryan got his ass kicked. As it has been correctly described, Ryan's jersey was almost off, and he was turning purple.

If anything would have to be called a draw. Ryan won round 1. Robin won round 2.

He's even admitted in interviews that he thought he was going to die on the field.

Is this just another weird Cubs/Sox thing, like the attendance victories?

Except for the stupid music, this video is great. It pretty much proves that Robin might have lost an initial battle, but clearly won the war.

Ryan ended up beneath a massive pile of bodies, and only the arrival of Bo Jackson kept him from serious harm. From a Ryan biography:

“All I remember is that I couldn’t breathe,” says Ryan. “I thought I was going to black out and die, when all of a sudden I see two big arms tossing bodies off of me. It was [Chicago’s] Bo Jackson. He had come to my rescue, and I’m awful glad he did, because I was about to pass out. I called him that night and thanked him.”

I must admit to not knowing that part of the story. Maybe the Sox fan embarrassment in me over watching Robin's pitiful round 1 always made me turn away too quickly.

in the context of the rule how it stands TODAY, you are not wrong. but i think we've established the new rules are pretty stupid to begin with. I'm talking about historically. We are not that far removed where old habits won't prevail...this slide last year would of netted nothing. guys are sliding all over the place still and getting called for interference with much worse slides than that. Thats what i'm saying, this is nothing to get worked up about. sure last fall probably is the catalyst but a hard 2nd base slide where you are barely touched? psh.

In which other context would you like to frame things? There used to be no DH in the AL. Baseball used to only be white players. Nothing historically has any bearing on what happened yesterday. I'm not sure what your point is.

You can think the new rules are stupid, but they are the rules.

Strangely, I remember hearing about that one. Something to the effect that once he realized who he bit, he immediately apologized.

Unfortunately. You would think Ryan admitting he was afraid of literally dying would end this one, but no.

those things are so far removed from the game and aren't anything you can even "retaliate" about. guys could slide like that literally 8 mo ago so it continues to happen out of habit. that elf eared 2b isn't a rookie. he's been slid into harder and has done jack shit about it in the past. probably even this year. but the dude pimped a missile 8 months ago? lame.

my point is that its a judgement call (unlike are you white or black or a dh) and he could of gotten bent out of shape over nothing if it wasn't called...they could of easily said he was fine had there not been a brawl. i've seen a number this year worse that haven't been called at all.

Ryan admitted to feeling like he was going to black out and die from all the people on top of him. I can only imagine in the moment that would be a scary situation.

He did not admit that Robin beat his ass, because Robin did not beat his ass.

When it was Robin and Ryan one on one, Ryan clearly got the best of em. When everyone started jumping in the middle of it, Robin got an advantage by choking him.

So let's not pretend that it is just clearly a case of Robin beating Ryan's ass.

Robin tackled that old bitch while he gave him a couple noogies, spun him around, and then choked the living shit out of his geriatric ass. Ryan needed a case of Ben Gay after that whoopin'.

This wasn't Bautista forgetting the new rule. Texas threw at him for the bat flip, and he decided to take it out on Odor.

The whole thing is lame, but it has nothing to do with old rules vs new rules.

When I first saw it I didn't particularly find anything wrong with the slide for crying out loud ... and I still don't.

I would suggest that Bautista probably wouldn't have been hit in the face if he hadn't stood up and walked over toward Odor like he was King Shit of Fuck Island with a 'whatchoo gon' do about it' presence ... at that point, he's asking for it, as they say ... and brother, he done got it.

According to the new rules, it wasn't even close to being within the rules. The only part that was good, was that he stayed in the baseline, for the most part.

If you are going to get in somebody's face like that, you better be ready to throw down. Joey Bats clearly was not. If he wanted to rumble, one guy wasn't holding him back.

Go back and watch the video again and count how many guys were on top of him. Had nothing to do with Robin giving any ass whoopin
