Cubs are asking for a liquor license like 50 times the size of the next largest handed out by the city. They are asking to do whatever they want no doubt about it.

The locals also have the right to object to things they are doing if they feel they are not or shouldn't be allowed to do it.

The Cubs are the ones attempting to do something they were not previously allowed to do. Why are we mad at the neighbors for fighting it?

I need a clarification. Are we talking about the real neighbors that live there? Like a little down the street? Or are these the commercial enterprises immediately surrounding the park that compete with the Cubs for beer and merchandise sales?

What a bunch of horse shit. How many people still live in the neighborhood that were there before the rooftops became big business? The area's bars and rooftops have combined with the stadium to make a massive multipurpose complex that has been operating for decades.

Now the Cubs want to maximize revenue by making some cool enhancements to the neighborhood...including a hotel? Fucking awesome!

Fuck Tunney and the other assholes that have spent decades trying to block shit from happening.

Every dollar the Ricketts family takes in, is that much more they can put into the product on the field. When the ballpark is finished, along with the plaza and hotel, they will just be raking it in and the payroll may well be in the Dodgers range, as they have to pay out to keep guys like Bryant in the fold as well as signing top free agents. The money bar owners make will not help put a better product on the field, so it's easy for me to want the Ricketts family to make that dollar instead.

Do you really think it will impact the neighborhood, other than to divert dollars previously taken in by bar owners, back to the Ricketts family instead? It's not like they are going to be suddenly bringing in 50,000 fans, rather than 40,000. The ballpark is still going to be just over 40,000 with standing room. So there will be approximately the same number of people drinking in Wrigleyville. It's just a matter of where they drink and who gets those dollars. That is it. Period.

I don't live in the neighborhood either and never will. It sounds like a fun thing to do and I probably will go to it at some point and enjoy it.

It just doesn't mean I think the people who are going to be affected by it every single day are wrong for not wanting to just open up the doors for the Cubs to do whatever they want.

If you live in the area and have new streets, sidewalks, curbs, street lights, added security, parks for the kids, a skating rink in the winter, movies in the park.....yeah, those things are all kind of nice. it doesn't do a lot for guys like me that live in Winnetka, except to make it a nicer neighborhood to walk through and visit. but I would think for people that live there, these are nice things.

People are saying "You bought by Wrigley Field. Deal with it". The same should be true for the people that bought Wrigley Field. It's inconsistent to act like the Ricketts buying the Cubs doesn't reset the "Deal with it" clock but buying a condo does.

Are you 100% certain the Rickett's family doesn't have some sub corporation running the plaza and hotel? They will need to hide/siphon some revenue for the family and all that. Similar to the Trib having the Cubs "losing" money?

The Cubs are doing things to try and keep people in the neighborhood longer after games and attract patrons to the area 365 days a year with the hotel and museum or whatever. There will likely be a net gain by all the businesses in the area.

Do I think it's families living in the neighborhood that are being the squeaky wheel on this? Not one little bit.
