Closing, the end of an era in chicago.

I know it's easy to say the big development squeezed them out and I know that was part of the reason, but the guy had a great run, he ran a great little place. Nothing was spectacular in terms of food, it was simple stuff...ya know, BREAKFAST! but MY GUY Juan did it well and quick. Usually got Chopped Salad, Turkey Club and/or Chili. Always open, convenient, affordable, always tipped the girls very well, so I could walk in during a rush and get a quick to go order.

For the record Juan was the head chef (short order, but still numero uno on the hierarchy).

Was a fan that all cooking was done in front of the house.

I think if he really wanted to stay open, he could have at a new location or even a new deal with the developments, this is something though a REAL Alderman should be involved in, keeping good businesses alive in the city, should be part of the crap that has gone on the past 7 years between that asswipe Tunney and the Ricketts family. Something like "Hey, you are going to own 20 buildings, how about we find a spot for this guy?"

Always chilled there before the Cubs games because it was cheaper.

Went there for some food and drinks once before the Queens Of The Stone Age concert and a waitress working there asked us if we wanted a tray of free jello shots because she put too much vodka in them. Of course we said yes and we were hammered before we even got to the concert.

Good times. Good memories.

Did you ever frequent the Hamburger King? Burgers weren't Sonya's best menu option. Saw it closed a year or so ago. That was my go to sit in joint for a while.

Enjoy your change of scenery. After all this place has been through I am tempted to believe the change is some kind of late April fool's joke. Whatever. Hope it suits you and the new management. Good fun always had by all who visit. Thanks for kicking it off.
