And I find it curious that suburbanites think their shitty opinions on City of Chicago zoning issues matter even a little bit.

I feel like I am a bit more qualified (I might have said entitled, but that would have just invited problems) than the average suburban fan, to broach this subject. My Great-Grandfather bought a 2 flat at 3833 N. Clark St. (across the street from where Nuts on Clark is now) and my Grandparents lived there after my Great- Grandparents passed as did my Mother, before she married my Father. I grew up going to lots of games there. Lived there myself for a bit over a year, while renovating the first floor flat at one point. I know the neighborhood. I still know many of the neighbors there and stop to say hello before or after a game. I played on softball team that were sponsored by the neighborhood bar (then Joe's Piano man) and went to the Metro to see musical acts. The neighborhood is like a 2nd home and I wish my Mother had not sold the building, or I would have maintained it and kept it in the family for as long as I lived. I love the effect the Ricketts are having on that neighborhood. Sure, it will ultimately just make them even richer and that is their motivation. But it's made the neighborhood better and they have made the team better. It's all good.

You should have stayed if you wanted your opinion to matter. Your family sold their building but you still seem to think you should have the same or more input than the people you sold it to.

I said I would have kept the building, but I wouldn't have lived there. I hate the traffic and parking issues in the city. I would have rented the 1st and 2nd floor apartments and kept the garage for myself to use to park there for games, as well as for times I would stop by to maintain the property. But I would not have lived there again. But my Great-Grandfather owned that building BEFORE Wrigley field was built. So when the lights were installed in 1988, I could say that my family was there before the ballpark and had they not wanted the lights, would have had some legitimate grounds to complain. It did make parking tougher on some neighbors who did not have a garage and came home with no parking spots available, due to fans parking on the street. But then they made people have a parking sticker, or have their car towed, so that problem went away.

Fuck the Cubs. The magic of Wrigleyville was always the symbiosis between the ballpark and the neighborhood. Businesses and residences wouldn't be worth shit without Wrigley Field, and the Cubs wouldn't draw 30,000 to 70-win day baseball in an Itasca office campus. Never should have messed with the formula. You got greedy, Martin.

Shut up.

You've got your five to ten rah rah cheerleaders on this board. I can promise you that that is the limit of people that give a rabbit sized shit about what you think.

You can know nothing of how the world operates from your small little corner of an unfinished basement.

And how did "the formula" work out for the Cubs? Sure, it was a cash cow for TribCo, (a company that ended up going bankrupt, anyway), but how many championships did that symbiosis bring?

It's not like the neighbors just started bitching when the Ricketts took over - they have been bitching for decades; it's just a different level of bitching for pretty much the same reasons. Didn't stop them from attempting to profit themselves, and don't think for a second that they wouldn't be bitching even louder if Ricketts had announced that he WAS moving the team when he took over.

Are the Cubs attempting to do something illegal? Are they trying to circumvent zoning regulations?

I read the thread just fine. Your original stance of "poor Wrigleyville souls are being infringed on by the big bad Cub OrganIZation, even though we should have seen this coming 35 years ago" somehow morphed into "Cubs benefit from owning their ballpark and surrounding property" as being the point, but your second point really has nothing to do with the first point in this instance.
I wasn't the one who made the link to the White Sox.

Maybe read the thread again to see it.

So, knowing that your first argument was pissing into the wind, you decided to make the easy, yet unrelated, latch onto ES's Sox comment to try to win a different argument that was had nothing to do with the SunTimes article? OK, you win.

Good God the residents and business owners around this area are such a whiny bunch of twatmuffins.
I'll bet that looney toon Beth Murphy is all over this... and that other wackadoo what's his nuts. They've protested everything the Cubs have done in the neighborhood over the last 10 years or so. Bitched when they weren't allowed to sell tickets to peep over the walls...

If it weren't for the Cubs their property values would be 10% of what they are now.

Bunch of crybaby bozos.

Fuck them all!

I doubt the average resident gives one shit. Most of the residents are fans of the organization...or live there BECAUSE of the Cubs. The business owners bitch because their profits might take a hit...but most of their profits are by the grace of the Cub to begin with.

In an alternate universe...where the Cubs are currently building their Rosemont stadium...I'd love to see how those Wrigleyville owners are shitting their pants.

I really cannot understand all the Cub hate.....it amazes me how what is lost in all of this is how good this is for this City that is spiraling down at a frantic pace......not just the Cubs, but if both teams are successful. Yes I am a Cub fan....... But I don't show the hate on the White Sox like the majority of people here on this forum

I'm a Cub fan who thinks Rickett's is a pretty shitty dude who does pretty shitty things because Cubs fans don't care. I mean I'm sure he'd do the shitty things even if the fans cared, but he's in the ES category of people who, if the Cubs ever win a WS, I hope get a concussion and completely forget it ever happened (and still live a complete healthy life otherwise).

Why is Ricketts a shitty dude? He's done more for the Cubs and the Wrigley neighborhood than perhaps any owner in Cubs history. He hired Theo, renovated Wrigley, and rebuilt the Cubs into the best team and organization in MLB.

He is pretty stupid. It probably wouldn't take much effort to get him to believe it was all just a dream.

Pump the brakes on the "best organization." They lost almost 400 games over the course of 4 years and haven't won a thing yet. For all we know this team could win 107 games and lose in the NLDS.

What do they sing on the south side? Lets stay here and let the state pay for our stadium or we gonna move to Tampa? Memories are golden.

I've never heard a Sox fan defend Reinsdorf's sweetheart deal, but you can't find a Cub fan who doesn't think Ricketts should own Clark Street if he wants it.

So do you think they should have just kept going with the old plan? Fans want owners who improve their facilities, team, and organization. What Rickettz has done is unbelievable and rarely seen in the sports world today. The guy deserves a helluva lot of credit. He's the best owner in the City by a mile and it isn't close.

I'm sure there are fans who would allow Todd Ricketts to assfuck their wives if the Cubs could muster a World Series championship.
