Maddon fucked up. Why do you pinch run a guy that can put you ahead with one swing for a guy who can win the game with one swing? WTF is that?

I get the move. Baez is very fast and he represented the tying run. But all the more reason to have perhaps another fast infielder or outfielder on the 25 man roster you could have used there instead of Baez to pinch run, rather than having a 3rd catcher taking up that spot.

Of course Heyward gets a hit with nobody on. No shock he only had 60 RBI last year. Not a good situational hitter.

So.... he shouldn't have gotten a hit with nobody on?

No, dipshit, but wouldn't you rather him actually get a hit when it mattered once in a while?

I'd say getting a single in extras is a good time to get a hit.

It's not just how many hits a guy gets, but when he gets them that matters. Some guys rise to the occasion, while others shrink from the pressure. Heyward is not a guy I want at bat in a crucial situation.

Not as good as first and third with one out in the 8th, Moondick.

Great job by Strop. That lil bloop made things a little nervous. But he got out of it. 2 innings tonight means he is unavailable tomorrow afternoon. Babe LaStella leads it off, so hopefully they get it going here.

The hell of it is, he didn't even need to get a hit. Just make a productive out that scores the run.

So is Madden planning on using Rondon 2 innings here too? If he gets the Brewers out here, the Cubs still need to score and then the Brewers bat again. So does Joe plan on using him in both innings and having neither Strop or Rondon available tomorrow?

The genius is having a bad game. It happens.

I guess if Hammel can go deep into the game it won't be a huge issue. Then they use Cahill or Ramirez to close if needed. This game shows the roster cannot continue to carry 3 catchers though. Makes no sense.

Early in the season Heyward was ahead in the count a lot. Now, it seems like he is 0-2 or 1-2 a whole lot.

yeah I didnt get that.

I think with how Heyward has been going, you bunt Fowler in to scoring position and take your chances with 1 out and a runner in scoring position

Wood is just not a reliable situational lefty. Neither is Clayton Richard. they really need to upgrade that spot.
