The Bear connection to the word Abilene continues.

He dominated Kansas and Baylor's defenses? That's huge!

He had a first-round grade from PFF. I like the pick.

I don't think its a question of whether it was a good pick at that slot. I think the question is whether it would have been better to stay at the original second rounder and take a high quality DL or the OT from Indiana.

Whitehair seems fine. I wonder if any other team in the league has spent a #1 and a #2 pick on their OG. I know it was during two different regimes but it seems like a misprioritization. Slaussen was possibly their best OL and he was another team's late round pick and a low level FA signing.

I don't really know much about this guy but I heard some national guys talking about him before the draft and they were saying he's really weak..I believe the lowest bench press reps by any linemen in many years.

Weren't you the guy yearning for the Bears to draft DeCastro a couple years back?

I don't know if I was yearning for him. I think I wanted him more than Shea Mc Clellin. I believe Quentin Couples was my guy.

You raise a valid point about positional priorities in the draft. The problem for the Bears, however, is that they suffer from a pervasive lack of talent across the roster. Consequently, the team needed to amass a greater quantity of draft picks at some point. In trading down, the Bears acquired a first-round talent in the second round (and a player who generally earned a superior pre-draft evaluation to the Indiana OT)while also drafting several highly regarded players with their additional later picks. This strikes me as a sound strategy.

It was a good pick, but PFF is a trash heap.
