You know what is great? The Cubs only needed 1/3 of their prospects to become the best team in baseball.

You know what's great? The Royals won a pennant AND a World Series with 1/3 of their prospects becoming good.

The Cubs... not so much.

It took the Royals how many years after their prospects came up?

Cubs do it in Year Two.

the next 4 months of cubs baseball is basically meaningless. the only things that matter right now is keeping the top 3 pitchers healthy and not losing key position players to long term injuries

Now add Zobrist to the core group this year. Contreras will be added later this season and Almora will be added later this year, but truly be a core member next year. Contreras will also not be a true core member until next season.

Wasn't Castro part of the original core 4?

I thought Soler was in the Core Four? Crazy that we have so many prospects that you can't remember.

WWN is a Sox fan. So I trust his memory on Cub prospects.

He'll be permanently traded in the offseason when his agent tells the Cubs there will be no more LF.

  yeah, if he gets traded I'm sure it'll be because of his agent.

I dont remember if the 4th was Rizzo, Baez or Schwarber

5 of the 6 have hit big post season homeruns

Schwarber wasn't there, and Rizzo normally didn't count because he was already on the big league team like future cornerstone Starlin Castro.

I think Schwarber was. I dont believe there was a "core 4" prior to that draft. And then it became the core 5 after the Russell trade.

It definately predates Schwarber.

It doesn't really matter though. Bryant makes up for all the other failures.

It was normally a mix of Baez, Bryant, Alcatara, Almora, and Soler.

I dont see what you're saying with that JORR quote. So yea, it was the 4 without Alcantara.

Alcantara was never in it. That was CSFMB White Sox fans trying to spin it.

JORR said the term before Schwarber was drafted.

It doesn't really matter. Bryant is the star and the rest don't seem to be much.

It's ok though. Theo saved himself by getting better players.

Young Matches had high hopes for Berryhill. I was hurt when it didn't work out, but then a roided-up Rick Wilkins made me believe in Cub backstops again.

For sure. When guys like Steve, 313player, or Kirkwood post I sometimes think I'm reading Socrates and not the Cubs section.

Baez has already contributed in post season. Almora is still tbd. Bryant is awesome and Soler still has a shot to work out.

But after the season of the Schwarber draft and Russell acquisition the core changed.

And no reason to exclude Rizzo. He was the first step in this whole thing

Rizzo
Bryant
Russell
Arietta

That's the core

Speaking of rewriting history....

I didn't invent the concept.

As I said, it's ok. Theo saved himself by getting better players than 3/4 of them.

Its not rewriting history. Im not denying the original Bryant-Almora-Baez-Soler group. Im just saying the core improved. We agree.

Baez hit a playoff series winning homerun against the Cardinals.
