I understand that ratings and profits will always be the most important aspect on any program director's mind, but I also think that "listening to what the people want so they'll listen more" is missing from their play-books.

Too often, ratings for something will be low, and it takes forever for anyone to make any changes (i.e. Salisbury and Rosembloom on ESPN 1000 - a huge huge failure that you knew was not going to get better after a few months due to Sean Salisbury just sucking). That failure of a show lasted almost a year.

Then we have - the Mike North Morning Show - a complete disaster. For how many years did the voices on Score670.com message board plead to Score management to remove Ann Maxfield and bring in a stronger co-host who might challenge Mike? Then they tried it for a few weeks and brought in Matt Abbatocola. The show sounded better. But not for long, as North decided he was bringing Maxfield back and no new co-hosts. Maxfield ended up leaving a few months later anyways, and now it's just North and Fred, and the show still sounds bad and does horrible numbers (Mike and Mike on ESPN 1000 has beaten North in every ratings book for the target demo except ONCE).

I could go on and on and on but you get my point. Radio management, sometimes, should listen more to the people. Sometimes, we commoners know what we're talking about.

Why did you copy and paste that post from "program director" thread from Chicagolandradioandmedia.com message board?

I am just not convinced Mitch is that big of a fan of North's, but he knows the contract is in place and Mitch is making the most out of the bad scenario he is in.

He knows it is much better to kiss North's ass, than to fight with him as North is making more money during this contract than most guys will make in Radio in their entire careers, so North does not care if he goes down burning anyone he sees as an enemy, including Mitch.

You have to give Mitch credit for dealing with this the way he has. You often hear North mention Mitchs name in the good light, versus his past battles with Agasi.

The surprise to me is the lack of importance that Mitch or any other Radio sports guy gives the comments on the board. These are people that listen to your station. How can you deny it? Because they have a clear voice?

Yes, we know many negative comments show up, but the same thing happens in any business that has a suggestion box.

Remember the only person that gets random positive comments about the work they do in any business is Mike North. Nobody gets more emails, letters and faxes telling him how great he is from 'New" and "Alleged" listeners. Hey, I am not sayin', I'm just sayin', ya' know!

I would have bet the house that North would re-sign at the Score, because who would want him, but now I just get the feeling isnt going to be back. I dont know anything, but I would assume he isnt going to take a pay cut and he isnt going to be happy about letting others tell him how to do his show, so he walks and I seriously doubt that anyone is going to be waiting with big bucks for him.

Maybe he can sell his "bookie priest" crap in Vegas. Time has past him by and he knows it. Almost every morning in the first part of his show, he blasts management. Not usually a good negotiating technique.
His ratings have always sucked, no matter what time slot. He just isn't worth the money or the trouble. He's gone before the contract ends. Probably June.

NORTH:Screw you, I want $1,700,000, I aint taking less than I amde last year

CBS:Mike, $500,000 per year is the deal and we tell you who to work with

MIKE:I will take nothing less than $1,000,000 and I am starting at 7 AM!

CBS:mike for the last time here is $500,000.

MIKE: I am taking David Spada, the Gardinaire guys and that loan shark I do business with and we are going to WLS!

WLS: Mike here is $75,000 and you get 13% of every dollar above $500,000 that we gross.

Jerry Agar is replaceable - though I'd prefer Agar.

Why would they hire North? I don't think the 12-24 age group is their target audience and the score has the high school dropout market cornered already, so what would he bring to any station?
