The Sandler discussion got me thinking. What actor has seen the biggest decline in quality? I know that Adam Sandler was never great but he made some really good movies and now half of his movies look like they just filmed them as they went along.

I have a hard time coming up with anyone worse than Robert DeNiro though. He is one of the greatest actors of our generation but he has pretty much been horrible for a decade and seemingly getting worse. I haven't seen it but Dirty Grandpa looks like a pile of garbage.

I'd also put Eddie Murphy on the list.

Nicholas Cage
Bruce Willis
Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro

Before John Wick came out I would have put Keanu Reeves on the list.

Any good or great actors are basically going to have their time to shine, but as they get older, the newer annual flavors are going to get the majority of the good scripts. The old-timers are going to take whatever they can to a) get a paycheck to try to keep up the lifestyle they are used to, b) because they still have that itch to want to be in movies, just because it's in their blood, or c) both a & b above.

Looked like Tom Hanks could have been on this list until "Captain Phillips" and "Bridge of Spies" kind of brought him back around.

One guy that hasn't succumbed to this pattern is Jack Nicholson. He doesn't take every crap movie offered to him, and seems content with that.

Actually, the majority of Murphy's movies have been crap, not that some of them didn't get some bank, but beyond "48 Hours", "Trading Places", "Coming to America" and maybe the first "Beverly Hills Cop", the rest are pretty much shit fests.

Katherine Heigl

A few years ago,she went from a hot TV show to starring in romcoms. She can now be seen doing kitty litter commercials.

1) Never considered a great actor,
2) The words "hot TV show" and "quality" are not necessarily synonymous.

I can't include Reeves or Cage here. Always liked their big moves in spite of them, not because of. Add Ben Stiller to that list too.

DeNiro was also my immediate thought.

Cage, Reeves and Willis were never really "great actors", but they were big box office draws and then.... not. Cage and Willis appear to be chasing money, doing straight to Netflix "films" and only recently has Keanu become relevant again.

DeNiro doesn't really want to act anymore. He likes the check, but producers seem content with just paying him to show up. Pacino was one of the greatest to ever do it.

He has been playing the same character since Heat...

Everytime I watch Heat I'm still yelling at DeNiro to walk away and not go to the hotel

This could be the winner.

At least DeNiro has the age excuse.

I loved Ed Norton Jr from American History X and Rounders. He just disappeared.....he seemed like he was destined for a great career.

Chevy Chase always disappointed me because he was awesome in Vacation and Fletch.

Totally agree with this, especially the last two. Pacino seems to be trying to reinvent his career (S1m0ne, anyone?) for some reason.

DeNiro.... I think he is trying to go Bill Murray (making the movies he wants, not what hollywood wants) but seems to eager to cash-grab.

Starts and ends with DeNiro. Went from playing Vito Corleone to playing Anne Hathaway's bitch secretary

I know it stretches the "great" part of it but Jim Carrey needs to be mentioned too.

Demi Moore.

But she pretty much quit acting, right? Like 10 or 15 years ago. When she was still hot. I think she was the highest paid actress when she quit. Like 20 million a film

Nicole Kidman

Her demise happened when she got some horrible plastic surgery. Thing is she didn't need it when she got it. It made her look worse.

Went from great movies to shit.

How about Mel Gibson? Went from Braveheart to wearing a fucking puppet on his hand.

Will Farrell has never been good at all and gets worse every movie. I give DiNiro a pass because he is always entertaining even in shitty roles.

Well, yeah. That's because he told the world he hates Jewish people and black people. That will always end a Hollywood career.

Yeah, I know he is a loon now. I'm surprised it took this long considering his Dad is worse.
