I still like Soler, I think he can hit but I believe Theo shopped em both and didn't like what he heard.

Perhaps. Their best this season is yet to come. Career wise, it doesn't make a great deal of sense to keep Soler past this year. Schwarber should be back playing LF next year and Almora will be coming up to take Fowlers place. Unless Almora seems iffy after he is called up this year and they are considering playing Heyward in CF, it probably makes more sense to move Soler for pitching. Whether that means a starter or a situational lefty or another late inning guy. Baez has more value as the only true backup SS and a guy who can play all over the infield as well as the outfield. I doubt they move him.

Just package Soler, Baez and Schwarber for Trout and be done with it.

Yes, you can get better production out of other players already on the team and in the minors. Baez reminds me of Shaun Dunston and Soler as Soriono in the middle of a slump.

Really dumb thoughts. Soler is playing MUCH better in LF now than he ever played in RF and just starting to hit. I expect his value to rise more as the weather is finally warm. Baez is a highly versatile player with great skills. Plus, Madden loves him, so I doubt he's going anywhere.

Baez is starting to remind me of Pokey Reese. Remember when the asshat GM in Cincy proclaimed that he wouldn't trade Reese for Junior Griffey straight up?

Baez and Soler both 2 for 4 today, including a monster 2 run homer by Soler.

Soler couldn't even throw out the runner from mid LF during the SF series. They showed how he fails to setup under the ball before attempting his throws home. That is basic baseball 101 that he should have picked up in the minors. No excuse for not executing the basics.

What kind of weather do you think we will have in Chicago during the playoffs? If he can't hit in cold weather then he will be a liability in October. You can't keep all the prospects. Some have to go to fill needs and a utility INF is not a need with Zobrist and Lastella on your team. Baez is a swing for the fences type of player every time he is up. Some times he will get lucky and hit the ball, but other times he will strike out swinging at horrible pitches that kill the flow of your offense.

If you can get an all star player for them, then you do it.

Yes, if you can get an All-Star catcher (Jonathon Lucroy) or a lights out lefty specialist ( Miller or Chapman) I make the deal, even though Contreras looks like a great prospect, because Lucroy is a proven All-Star and would improve their chances to win a title this year and in the next couple as well. But it is going to take a very good player to part with these guys, as both have very high ceilings.

So many people had Soler being a star player with the biggest concern being his health. Now he is healthy and really inconsistent. Need to see how Schwarber looks next year then he probably goes in the trade deadline next year.

I appreciate Hoffy like comments. I also wish some cub fans would rewind a 18 months or so ago and own that all these guys were slam dunk can't miss studs.

go back and find the posts from multiple Cubs fans saying ALL these guys were slam dunk studs... I'll sit down and wait for your research

In the mean time it is far easier to find ALL the sock fans saying ALL the Cubs prospects will FAILbecause that is what Cub prospects do ALL the time....

I think most of us had the feeling that if half of the so called prospects panned out, we'd be over the moon with those results.

And taking into account his Boston days, isn't time to acknowledge that Theo & Co. draft pretty well?

As a Cubs fan, Baez and Soler are the least of my worries. A lot of money has been invested in an aging pitcher who looked to be on the decline last year and a right fielder who is currently hitting .217 with 1HR.

Did. not. happen.

You need to take a week break from baseball posting. Or any posting.

Correct, being excited about a prospect and thinking he is the next Babe Ruth are two different things. Unlike football and basketball we don't get to see the prospects actually play unless you go to the games, so we can only go by what we read and HOPE they turn out to be M.Trout or N.Syndaargard.

Maddon is breaking in both guys slowly and they are contributing.

Soler still looks to be a potential consistent 25HR guy but not an all-star. Baez has the glove and is getting his offensive game acclimated and certainly would be a starter on many teams but is also not a likely all-star.

Both are trade bait for sure.
