Nixon was one of the worst presidents ever. I find it funny how much the left hates him. He gave them more avenues to regulate our lives than any president in history and they've taken full advantage of it. I loathe Richard E Nixon.

He implemented the first significant federal affirmative action program.

He dramatically increased spending on federal employee salaries.

He oversaw the first large-scale integration of public schools in the South (something the crackers where I grew up were none too happy about).

He proposed a guaranteed annual wage (aka a “negative income tax”).

He advocated comprehensive national health insurance (single payer) for all Americans.

He imposed wage and price controls in times of economic crisis. This wasn’t a terribly good idea, but it was the furthest thing from a conservative idea. Truth is, it was positively socialist.

He indexed Social Security for inflation and created Supplemental Security Income.

He created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the Office of Minority Business Enterprise.

He appointed four Supreme Court Justices. Three of them voted with the majority in Roe v. Wade.

Nixon was a statist, not a liberal. I am speaking of classical liberalism, not modern liberalism. Modern liberalism has been co-opted by authoritarian statists.

Neither is a hodge-podge of nonsense. Both are statist ideologies with the goal of subjagating the populace to their beliefs. Neither care about the individual. They only care about using the state to force the citizens to live how the elite think they should live. All the while using crony-capitalism to enrich their buddies who then funnel money back to them. It's all pretty simple. In pure capitalism, the rich become powerful. In socialism, the powerful become rich. Our economy is large enough to have a mix of both. The disappearing middle class foots the bill for both.

I like Nixon. He was a good man and rightfully paranoid.

I used to dislike Regan when I was in HS. My grandfather called him an actor in his greatest role. History has shown he WAS a great leader and President if not one of the best ever.
