On with Kap & Company now. He said 9/11 killed the 2001 Mariners' momentum, which is why they failed to get the all-time wins record.

I've thought he was a Douchebag ever since he stole ROY from Carlos May.

Bret(t) Boone hit .331 with 37 HR and 141 RBI in 2001. I know what era it was, but good god, man!

So how did Kap and Company respond to that?

He also ran into Rick Mahorn on the train ride. Great guy. Talked to him for hours.

That was an icky feeling when Lou said that. I knew what he meant though, but he could have used a little more tact when mentioning 9/11.

Besides that, I thought it was a pretty entertaining interview.

Kap, Silvy, etc. all just glossed over it. Not a one said a thing. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, since it's ESPN.

Was he saying that 9/11 in and of itself stopped their momentum or was he suggesting that the Yankees beat them due to overwhelming public support for New York during that time? (i.e. did the players feel a subconscious sympathy which prevented them from trying their best to beat the sentimental favorite)

He was strictly referencing the regular season wins record, I believe. The break due to 9/11 killed their momentum.

For those interested, go to the 26-minute mark.

I thought it was an interesting and entertaining interview. Sure Lou could have added that there were much bigger issues connected to that Sept. 11th, but that it seemed to have a detrimental effect on the team's momentum, as perhaps with bigger issues at hand, players may have lost a bit of focus. It was interesting to me, as I had never thought about how the events of 9/11 may have affected teams differently. The Yankees seemed to rally around the city and played well afterwards if I remember correctly. I enjoyed the interview.
