Great move, Alcantara blows and I liked Cogz. Pasta is going to love this.

I like Chris Coghlan. He has struggled a great deal this year, but maybe getting back to pitchers he knows better and working with the Cubs hitting coach will help him turn things around. Low risk move and giving up Alcantara makes sense, as there was very little chance he was going to find room at the major league level again.

Yep,saw this on the 10 pm news and wet my self a little.

I don't know what my fascination is with the journeyman ballplayer but you are only as strong as your 25th man.

He gives the Cubs some LH power off the bench and can backup at about 7 positions.

Statistically speaking, he just might be the worst player in MLB right now.

I guess the real question is, will it be Coghlan or Federowicz who goes once everyone is healthy? I know Richard has to be sweating his spot on the roster as well.

It's great when you're concerns are the 25th and last man in pen. We've come a long way from Mike Quade being "baseballed out" after a double-header years ago.

I think Federowicz sticks around until Contreras is called up. Frankly, I see no reason for him to be on the roster for weeks now. Once Montero was back, there was no real point. Having a 3rd catcher who cannot really hit, hamstrings the manager. Coghlan has been remarkably bad with Oakland. But I will not be surprised if he's better back with the Cubs. I like his versatility too. Clayton Richard should not have a spot on this roster. He helped out last year, but this season has shown he's not a guy who can be relied upon. A lefty out of the bullpen (that is really good) should be their #1 priority for the trade deadline.

He must have been well liked by Maddon obviously and in the clubhouse and they must think Alcantara is a AAAA guy.

It will be a battle though for him to stay on the 25 man roster however once everyone is healthy.

I see a DFA in his future or maybe a fake injury to stash him until September.
