Apple's MacBook Air is best known for its compact size, portability, and affordable price. With prices starting at $899, the MacBook Air is Apple's most affordable MacBook line.

Apple's MacBook Air notebooks last saw a redesign in 2010. They weigh in at 2.38 pounds and 2.96 pounds for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively, and come in 11 and 13-inch sizes.

The MacBook Air hasn't seen a full update since March 9, 2015, but in April of 2016, Apple updated all 13-inch MacBook Air models to include 8GB of RAM as a standard option, an upgrade over the base 4GB of RAM the 13-inch MacBook Air used to ship with. The 11-inch MacBook Air continues to ship with 4GB of RAM, but it can be upgraded to 8GB for an additional $100 fee.

Buh? I bought a Lenovo three years ago with the same RAM, same hard drive space, and a higher resolution, and it was only $300.

What's next? We're going to find out that Bert and Ernie were gay?

Worse....what if Spongebob and Patrick were gay? Not sure what I'd do.

The repair will be a lot cheaper than a new Air.

Good luck.

My daughter has talked to the family. They are taking it to a friend of theirs who repairs computers. When they find out the cost she is going to pay for it. If it cannot be repaired we will figure things out from there. It is a Macbook Air.

Don't buy a brand new laptop. If you crash into my car your insurance company won't give me a brand new car. If it needs to be replaced find one on Ebay and give it to her.

Exactly. Give them what the laptop is worth, which is much less than a brand new one.

It's called Actual Cash Value, fellas.

And ACV is all you would be legally liable for if it came to that. But I think that as an act of good will, I would pay for a new one. I'm a good guy IRL, though. Bought lots of drinks this weekend.

It was an old cat. It died of natural causes. So get this, now she tells me that I gotta buy her a brand new
cat. I say listen, honey. First of all, it was a pretty old cat. I'm not gonna buy you a brand new cat to replace an old dying cat. And second of all, I go out to the garbage, I find you a new cat in fifteen seconds. I say, you show
me an autopsy report that says this cat died of starvation, I spring for a new cat.

Make sure the money is pulled out of your daughter's allowance or savings.

At one time in my life,we owned 4 cars so my kids could have their own transportation. After a few years of minor fender benders and one major accident,my 2 cars looked like crap.

You bend over backwards for the ungrateful brats than they move out ,get married and you are something standing in the rearview mirror.

This should be your daughters final basketball camp. If Bobby Knight ran this camp there would be no downtime. Run them until they cannot eat supper. :)[/quote]

The repair bill in a lot of cases is more than the cost of a new laptop.

If that is the case..I'd offer half of what a new one costs..shit happens when you give children expensive electronics to travel with.

sounds like they kept using the laptop after RFDC's clumsy offspring showered it in HFCS. If they had shut it down, wiped it off/soaked up the soda as best they could and let it air dry overnight at least, the damage wouldn't have led to total system failure.

they may have apple care/apple care plus/ some kind of warranty.

also, how's RFDC's home insurance policy? It might cover something like this. Personal property loss rider?

If you do spring for a new (or refurb'd, they have those on apple.com and they are 20-40% cheaper than the same model new), ask for the old one. it prolly just needs the mainboard swapped out:

http://www.ebay.com/bhp/macbook-air-motherboard

RAM/HD et al likely ok.

They soaked up the soda, turned it upside down on a towel, but didn't shut it off.

Good thoughts on the actual cash value of the thing. I am not buying them a new machine. But if it is not repairable we will work something out.
