I think they love Ross. The one they resent is Lester.

They say everyone on the team likes/ respects Ross. I guess it's hard to resent a guy giving his best effort. He just can't hit much.

Ross is a backup catcher. Most backup catchers play at least once a week and can't hit. Hence....."backup".

Fine in the regular season. But in the playoffs, with the extra off days, it's not necessary and sitting Montero with a great history against Harvey harmed the team's chances to score runs.

Between Ross and Lester, it is pretty crippling to have two automatic outs in the lineup every time he pitches. Add to that the fact that he can't hold a guy on first and any attempt by the opponent to bunt is a fucking circus, and Lester is pretty much starting every game completely handicapped from a purely pitching perspective (by his own doing... to be clear, it's his own fault).

That said, it's not gonna change now. Lester has had his security blanket all year, and I can't see Maddon changing that now.

It's just frustrating to watch.

I am fine with that in the regular season, but don't you think now in the playoffs they need their best lineup going every game?

Especially considering that Lester isn't good enough to have his own catcher.

If your SP is the worst at holding runners on, there is some value to having the better defensive catcher playing.

Is Ross that much better than Montero?

I don't know that he's better at all. Montero ain't no bum.

I just think it's a security thing with Lester, which is kind of ridiculous.

I get it, in hindsight I would have liked to have another bat in there last night, but this is too much hand-wringing over Montero not being in there.

He's batting .143 (.294 OB) this postseason. They would still lose last night.

What about batting La Stella for Ross and not Montero who was entering the game anyways to replace Ross. What the shit was that about?

Bottom line is Lester isn't good enough to have his own catcher. Having Montero in the lineup makes the offense better. He's a threat to get a hit. Ross is just as likely to get a hit as Lester.

Exactly. If you are going to be demanding like that they you should have pitched a CG and won 2-1 last night. I wouldn't have a problem with it then. When you give up 4 over 6 2/3 then you get whatever catcher the manager wants to play.

Total 180 from last year.

Rossy is balling out as the best catcher in Chicago.

Jon Lester now has 8 starts this season allowing 1 ER or fewer, the most in MLB.

Sox Subdivision has been silenced this year. Literally nothing they can complain about anymore with the Cubs playing .700 ball and the Sox continuing to be a complete train wreck of a franchise. Their one hope is Robin is fired and they promote Renteria as manager.

Lester now with a sub 2 ERA.....pretty impressive. It's surprising how much better he has been this season.
