Mormons are already here, too late.

I must have missed the Mormons carrying out horrible acts based on their fucked up beliefs. Even so, Mormons are obviously fair game to be mocked and denigrated by liberals. It's only Muslims that have this bizarre protection from so-called liberals.

Book of Mormon wins Tony Awards with only mild d rebuttal from Mormons.

Salman Rushdie writes The Satanic Verses and has a hit put out on him

Was his homophobia informed by Islam?

He wasn't a religious guy and by all accounts he was homophobic prior to becoming an ISIS sympathizer.

Immigration Policy in World War II

by Steven Mintz
The day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt suspended naturalization proceedings for Italian, German, and Japanese immigrants, required them to register, restricted their mobility, and prohibited them from owning items that might be used for sabotage, such as cameras and shortwave radios. The curfews on Italian immigrants were lifted in October 1942, on Columbus Day.

Approximately 600,000 Italian aliens lived in the United States in 1940. About 1,600 Italian citizens were interned, and about 10,000 Italian-Americans were forced to move from their houses in California coastal communities to inland homes.

There were approximately 264,000 German aliens in 1940. During the war 10,905 Germans and German-Americans as well as a number of Bulgarians, Czechs, Hungarians and Romanians were placed in internment camps.

Well, it stands for "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria"

So, it would be pretty hard to not be religious and then align yourself with or join ISIS.

He may not have been religious at some point in his life but he certainly was the day he walked in to the club.

I don't know.

I think it is Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. ISIL is Islamic State of Iraq and...it's a region whose name I can't remember.

EDIT: Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (which, apparently, is Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel).

SOLID idea.

I just wanted to point out there is precedent for slowing our roll with bringing in refugees during times of war.

Mateen was more influenced by his father than anything else, I suspect he was a self loathing homo as well.

This isn't true. We have American Mormons who are sympathetic that get on planes and join them.

This guy didn't shoot up a gay club because he hates America, he shot up the club because he hates gays. The fact that he happens to be an ISIS sympathizer shouldn't change that.

If this afternoon, a hundred people formed a group that embraced the same viewpoints codified in Islam, you'd call it a hate group and you wouldn't want any members living next door to you.

That's a real narrow distinction. One of the reasons he hates America is because we don't support throwing gays off buildings in the name of a phony god. Why such reluctance to call it what it is?

Both can, and certainly are true. He made it a point to let everyone know that it wasn't just because of gay people.

A true hater of gays would not have done that.

By all accounts he didn't care about religion. This guy was a run of the mill radical American homophobe.

He is more then an ISIS sympathizer. He called 911 from the club's bathroom after his initial attack, pledging allegiance to ISIS. Their is no grey area, he was an ISIS terrorist.

According to Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, he has been told by U.S. intelligence sources that Mateen made a pledge of allegiance to ISIS prior to committing this act of terror.

Especially after being told by expert criminal psychiatrists, time and again, that this sort of postmortem notoriety for mass shooters is much more likely to inspire more wack-jobs to do similar things.

And in a couple of weeks nothing will be done, and this will be largely forgotten. If you can slaughter first-graders there is no gun crime too horrific to make people change their minds on guns.

Yes.

He called police to let them know.

Also, he was investigated twice by the FBI so we shouldn't pretend that he just woke up a few days ago and decided to become a threat.

I'm not surprised that he did that. He wanted to be famous and he wanted ISIS to believe that he did this for them. Reality is he was homophobic before ISIS existed and he was violent. This wasn't a stable man.

It is fallacious to think that this is simply a Muslim problem. If it were then there would be more attacks committed by East Asian Muslims. Indonesia houses more Muslims than any other nation in the world. Its a political problem. This guys father is a supporter of the Taliban. That probably has more to do with his hatred of the United States than the fact that he is Muslim. He probably hated both and found a way to take his anger on both the U.S. and homosexuals. Yes religion probably perverted his thinking further, but this is a political/homophobe issue more than it is religion.
