So I bought a house a month ago. Last week we realized the shower down stairs has a slow leak out into our living room. The water shows up about 15 minutes after running the water onto our carpet. This wasn't disclosed by the Seller nor was obviously caught by the inspector. How much is this gonna cost me?

Easy fix..cheap.. Could DIY ... I'd call the home inspector and cuss him out, gotta be water stains from previous leaks...is it leaking from the nipple going into the wall?

Had this with my tub shower after I moved. The water was running down the shower wall and hitting the top of the tub and running to the outside of the tub and drained itself in the corner between the floor, tub wall and surround wall. I renovate the entire bathroom but I could have just regrouted that area and siliconed over it and reminded everyone showering to keep it in the damn shower.

Have no idea. There are no water stains on the wall. It appears as if it is coming from under the shower base going under the wall and poolng on my carpet. It is pretty old. Shower only structure no tub.

Well if its just a shower.......you might be kinda screwed. Is it a tile wall or surround and is it a tile floor or solid pan? The cheapest thing on a house to replace is drywall so unless you have a surround and pan that has a leaky seam I would just cut that bitch open and run the shower and figure out where its coming from.

Both of my houses I have bought came with a 1 year warranty to address situations just like this. The mortgage company required it.

Yeah...the nipple that screws into the 90° inside the wall is probably galvanized and old as hell..they leak eventually and the water runs down inside the shower wall... Is my guess...I'd grab some channel locks n remove the shower head and nipple..replace it with a new nipple.

Woah hold on...
The door to the hall or whatever is where the water shows up?
That's opposite from the wet wall?
Or is this picture misleading me?

oh wow...its the same floor that its leaking on? I thought it was leaking into a finished basement. Check those groutlines and caulking around the door and pan.

The water is coming from the opposite end of the shower head.

Looks like the wet wall is on the left and the shower sprays toward the door where the water shows up right?

Yeah problem is the drain line or the grouting in the corner of the shower stall. Maybe the door seal or something. It's not the water pipe going to the shower head.

Agreed. The problem looks like the caulk/seal at the doors corner there. The shower door.

agreed. it's a seal/caulk/grout problem. we have a similar issue that we have to monitor. the sliding doors are terrible.

try running the shower just so the water hits the drain, and see if it happens.

I don't think you need to. Looks like a bullshit caulk job. Scrape that shit out and get some silicone I there and retest. It should be redone anyway. That corner looks awful.

why does that corner appear wet? is that just the picture?

Is the caulk mushy or rubbery? Looks like you can peel it up like string cheese...

Go to Ace!

Caulk is rock hard.

There are small wet spots all over the shower floor when I finish a shower in there.

if you run the shower so it doesn't hit the far wall, does the floor still get wet?

Clean that up with some isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs. You're gonna need three quarts of antifreeze, Prestone, no, make it Quaker State, and some 30 weight ball bearings.
