There's usually a dude with a sign on the Higgins exit off 290. I think he's the only homeless guy in Schaumburg.

There's one of those SRO's or something like that on Harrison and California.

And yes, there are a ton of homeless people on the Blue Line in the mornings...especially during the winter months. Stinking up the damn train. One was so bad I had to get off at the next stop just so I can walk to another car.

I second the idea of doing this through a church. Seems safer and they have a process.

My church houses homeless and is always looking for volunteers to help.

If you want to go the secular route:

Juneway and Paulina. Actually, the whole block is full of social service nonprofit offices. It's kind of amazing.

I remember seeing a story about a guy in Los Angeles, who pretended to be homeless. He would stand at an on-ramp to a freeway in tattered clothes. He would pull hundreds each day, and then drive off in his BMW.

Back in the day my great grandma used to give out food to some homeless people in the alley behind her apartment. Then she started to notice that there were more and more homeless gathering. Turns out the homeless had marked the side of her garage (not lambs blood) so other homeless would know that there was food to be had there.

It went really well. We started off near Millineum Station, went to the Thompson Center, then the Harold Washington Library and ended at the homeless shelter on 15th and Canal. We literally walked the entire time. Probably a good 4 or 5 miles. My lady friend would meet us whenever we ran out of bags. The thing is, my daughter would normally complain about walking 1 block, but she said nothing yesterday. She was really happy to help and I was really proud of her.

That's awesome. Well done. I hope she gets a good grade for a successful project.

I would be shocked if she didn't. I may fight her teacher about it.
