So my wife went to mass at St. Peter's in the Loop the other day. Afterward some of the people stayed around and made a novena to St. Anthony of Padua or Tony Da Finder as the boys at Provincia di Lago like to call him. You know how these Catholics are, they like to pray to false gods and worship graven images. My wife couldn't remember what St. Anthony was the patron saint of so she wasn't sure what to request when it came to that part of the novena. After she left the church she realized she had lost the library book she was carrying. She called the church but they told her the book was nowhere to be found. She walked back to the church to see for herself and lo and behold the book was there! I need a ruling on whether Tony Da Finder gets credit here since it was kind of his fault she lost the book in the first place. It seems to me it's kind of like he pitched himself into a save situation.

I'm going to ascribe this to the church grounds crew being too lazy to give the pews a good rake between innings.

You'd think we'd be in better shape if we changed his job description from helping people find stuff to helping people not get eaten by animals.

A woman who married you is praying to the patron saint of lost causes and you think it is because of a book.

I'd probably go with Francis of Assisi for that one.

That's St. Jude. Does a heathen like me really have to help you good Catholics keep your saints straight?

I would say it is symbolic of something. Only your wife knows what.

This reminds me of the old joke about the man trapped in the burning house. House is on fire all around him, he cant see any way to escape. He drops to his knees and begins to pray "Dear god, please save me. I know I havent always been a good man but if you save my life right now, I promise I will stop drinking. I'll stop smoking cigarettes. I'll stop going to the casino and gambling. I'll go to church every sunday and volunteer at all the church events." At that moment the flames part in what seems to be a miraculous tunnel and the front door goes flying off the hinges. The man runs out the door to safety and says to the sky "Never mind Lord, I took care of it myself."
