Let's not forget 1989:

n 1989, playing for the Chicago Cubs, Smith finished second in balloting for National League Rookie of the Year behind teammate Jerome Walton, who collected 22 of 24 first-place votes. Smith hit .324 as a rookie, getting 111 hits.

The moral of the story here is the Cubs said they were going to invest in the farm system and develop players. The dumped truckloads of money into the minors and it's working. They have multiple players coming up and playing well. More in the last 4 years than I can recall from that list.
Say what you want about them losing intentionally....and poke fun of "THE PLAN"....it's working for them...they're doing exactly what they said they'd do.

Yeah all hyperbole aside, I think it's fair to say that combining Boston and now Chicago, Theo & Co. know how to draft.
