Geez......could have not only tied it, but won it if Russell lays off the high fastball and Almora doesn't get thrown out trying to take 3rd. I knew Heyward wasn't going to do anything.

That would of sucked a lot more if they didn't have a double digit lead on the Cardinals.

Almora's attempt to take 3rd was a decent risk. If he makes it, they have a runner on third with 1 out, that can score on a fly ball. Molina just made a good throw. if the ball got away a bit more, he's in there. Bang-bang play as it was. Heyward should not have been signed, nor should he still be batting 2nd (for over a month that has been criminal) and Richard should be DFA'd. But with an 11 1/2 game lead, I guess getting real bent doesn't make sense.

I am more mad at Coughlan for not being on 2nd when Almora got out. If he moves up, then it is a tie game.

Carl Crawford is standing on 2nd no doubt.

Either way you probably end up squinting more than you want to.

If only we scored more runs than the other team we could have won it!

Agreed. Probably still another year away. They're not smart enough to beat the Giants this year.

Good point. He was probably stunned Almora went and never reacted. Bad, but understandable.

It was not a decent risk, Steve. There is no such thing as a decent risk when it involves testing Molina. Need to know your opponent and the situation and Almora's brain farted out on him. Zobrist's reaction tells it all. It was the worst play by the Cubs this season.

I've turned on Coughlan.

Has shitty attitude. He was bitching last year about his playing time.

It was with reason doucher

Jim Deshaies made a nice comment about Contreras's inexperience in framing pitches...with a runner on first, there was a full count and a borderline outside pitch and Contreras immediately jumped up out of his crouch without giving the ump a chance to see it (and he called it ball four). In general, Contreras seemed a little jumpy...but I'm pretty sure he'll be able to settle down and hopefully be a fixture behind the plate for the next 5-10 years.

He does seem a bit amped up. I like that in some ways, but you are right about the pitch framing. He'll learn. Hammel should be a good guy for him to catch tonight. Schwarber caught him last year quite a bit. Hammel seems like a guy who is unflappable, unlike Lester and Lackey, who are somewhat demonstrative on the mound. So hard to find a top flight catcher. I hope Contreras turns out to be as good as he's been advertised. I like the early returns.

We're in business.

And any shot of Matheney looking upset is a good shot.
