Heyward has sucked. But that was hit hard, just a nice play by Moss.

Yeah no one is above criticism, but Hayward has had a good night and Moss made the play there.

And a ground ball with runners on ends it. Story of the game for the Cub.

Hopefully Jake comes through tomorrow and we avoid the sweep.

Hopefully Cardinals finish the sweep tomorrow. Cubs were fat and sassy. Good reality check

The rooks look promising but you can't lose pieces like Fowler and act like everything is fine.

I think this series is proving just how important Fowler is to the offense. Even when he isn't going 2-4 with a double and a walk, he is seeing a ton of pitches and driving up the pitch count immediately.

The team is complete with the "you go, we go" element Fowler provides.

...Elmhurst Steve can't wait until Fowler is gone and Almora is the everyday CF (and leadoff hitter?)

as much as i DO think IMU has a point about fowler, I still think the cubs are pretty much doing their thing whilst experiencing the usual ups and downs of a 162 game season. IIRC the defense/fielding-% has been down for awhile to the extent where it's more than a little ~1-2 week blip on the radar, otherwise I wouldn't read too much into losing a couple 1-run-games to the cardinals that has your lead shrunk down to as little as, what, ~10.5 games on june 22nd?

honestly, barring some sort of prolonged injury i think this was a great time for fowler to get a breather for a couple'a weeks. now you have that much more opportunity to get almora some regular/ish at bats, and thus he can get his feet wet whilst sipping a cup of coffee at the MLB level. this cubs team hasn't missed kyle "babe FUCKING ruth" schwarber this season, so even with (the perennially-meh?) soler also on the DL i still think they've got plenty of depth to adjust to ultimately turn this fowler DL stint into a bigger-picture-positive via almora/etc.

besides, the cardinals are barely beating the cubs as it is. it's not like the cubs are reeling from a 4-game-sweep that saw them outscored 38-4 and now has them only 3-4 games ahead of the loathsome redbirds and their BEST FANS IN BASEBALL(TM)

Aside from the unnecessary shot at Schwarber, I agree.

It's not like they were blown out and Monday's game might have a different outcome if Almora is safe at third. And speaking of Almora, you do have to get him adjusted because there's a 99.9% chance he will be your CF going into next season. He'll be fine and we'll be fine.

Now the Arrieta coming back down to earth thing is what has me a bit concerned. That and the fact Theo still hasn't signed that extension.

Man it looks like Montero has aged ten years overnight.

He's really struggling out there and this apparent injury isn't going to help things.

9.5 game lead...not exactly sweating about it.

Let's hope this three game set is the low point of the season.

This game feels like we're back in the Rick Renteria era.
