Well, I'm simply going on what he told us at the Old Crow meeting. It seems to me he didn't really have a good reason to lie about it. We're not talking about a lot of dough here in any case. The weird thing is, if he didn't want to give up the board, he didn't have to. We didn't come to him trying to make a deal.

I thought the whole point was that he didn't want to run the message board anymore. Maybe he plans on controlling content so tightly that nothing came come back to effect him with his business, but that really won't be much of a message board.

In all seriousness, I always thought that BF was an okay guy and still do. I never met him, to be honest.
I think the three new owners are doing a hell of a job running this place and keeping things on an honorable plane.
I've only posted 1,800 times in all the years I have been reading this board.
I am not that active and don't get into the politics and have never really done the PM thing, for the most part.
I like a lot of the posters here and there are a few that I can't stand.
I enjoy coming here and reading what's going on but it doesn't consume me or run my life.
I'll be checking out both boards and can't wait to read The Chaunce's outdoor section!

With an average of 400 daily visitors, I always assumed there was very little money to made off of this message board. I remember when he started adding banner ads and I questioned what the point was. He also had some deal with a person from the Sky, which is how I assumed he funded the place for a while. Given that, I always tried to be respectful to the guy knowing he was making very little on something that probably required a lot of time and effort.

I know you most certainly didn't intend to be, but I would opine that you used a lazy word in that phrase that I suggest belittles (albeit inadvertently) what those three fellas did.

The word in question is "having", as in "having to".

They didn't 'have to' do anything.

They chose to do something.

They chose to acquire the board for a number of reasons I'm sure, but perhaps the most important reported one was to preserve this place and the connections it has provided and will most likely continue to provide.

They chose (and cared enough) to pay close attention to the situation enough that contingency plans were discussed and, when their suspicions proved correct, swiftly enacted.

They chose to forage ahead and keep their word when the other party did not. They didn't have to do so, they chose to do so.

I think that's an important distinction that, while not entirely at risk of being overlooked, can easily get lost by not framing it properly as what it was - a serious of choices.

On the flip-side, the word choice also applies to how the other party very much (mis)handled things. He didn't have to act the way he did, say the things he said, do the things he did (or tried to do anyway). He chose to. That too carries an important message that, if some posts are to be believed, seems to get easily discarded for reasons I'm frankly unclear on ... maybe it's just ignorance, willful or otherwise.

I think keeping that important distinction in mind will end a lot of the disagreements on how to consider the previous owner bu, far more importantly, help us to properly regard what the new owners did and, presuming their recent actions were representative of future conduct, will continue to do going forward. I would think that demonstrated level of carefully considered preparedness and thoughtfulness should give a certain refreshing sense of comfort insofar as one's view of this board is concerned.

In any event, one can then live and let live, post and let post, with everyone free to pursue a life of religious fulfillment.

I don't know that I entirely agree with Douchebag's point above, but I do question the MSFMB's reason-for-being at this point. Do people like Drop In, jackref, and KS despise everyone here so much that they can't stand to post on the same message board as we do?
