I noticed that Astellas was flying a rainbow flag at their headquarters on Willow Road and they had a large float in the parade yesterday. Many other corporations also had floats in the parade. I just find it all very disingenuous. It's really just advertising to a particular demographic and not sincere support for living the way a person wants to live.

In the case of Astellas, a friend of mine did good work there for over 20 years before she decided to do some porn in her spare time and was terminated. This had no effect on her work at the company. While it's not exactly the same as being gay, the principle is very similar. It's an employer making a moral judgment on a person's sexual habits. So save me the hypocrisy and your stupid fucking float.

The levels of badness are not the issue here. It is whether in your personal life you can do things in the public space and not expect your employer to consider it.

The one side basically says "If it doesn't effect your job then your employer has no right to consider it" and the other says that "What you do in public can have consequences". If this person was making neo-nazi videos I think most would expect them to get fired even if they weren't a nazi at work. The same is true for someone making adult movies.

Well, on one hand, the fact that these corporations are willing to be associated with the parade at all is a triumph in itself. But on the other hand, it's a little hollow when you know they aren't really walking the walk. It is subjective. What if you had a kid and the teacher was doing porn on the weekends? Would that be ok? I honestly can't say my thoughts either way on that but I certainly understand if the school decides that is not appropriate.

People thought the same things about homosexuals too. There are certain societal mores and taboos against porn (although one of the most popular modern TV stars is famous for nothing but a porno).

I guess my position would be that finding out about a porno a teacher made and using that as a reason not to make the hire is different than discovering the movie after she has been doing good work and earned a Golden Apple award and then firing her because of it. You should fire yourself first for a lack of due diligence. And then we come around to Seacrest's question, how did the administration find out about the porno?
