I noticed that Astellas was flying a rainbow flag at their headquarters on Willow Road and they had a large float in the parade yesterday. Many other corporations also had floats in the parade. I just find it all very disingenuous. It's really just advertising to a particular demographic and not sincere support for living the way a person wants to live.

In the case of Astellas, a friend of mine did good work there for over 20 years before she decided to do some porn in her spare time and was terminated. This had no effect on her work at the company. While it's not exactly the same as being gay, the principle is very similar. It's an employer making a moral judgment on a person's sexual habits. With the amount of porn available online, I would find it highly unlikely the students would find out about it without some douchebag parent bringing it up. But even if they did, I don't see it as being prohibitive from teaching.

Obviously, one of a teacher's many jobs/roles is teaching a student more about just what is inside the textbooks. I have a hard time believing someone with hateful, violent ideology can divorce it from other subjects.
