As for Bryant. He's just the next overhyped Cubs prospect that will fail spectacularly in the majors (much to my amusement).

Cool to see a prospect actually reach the hype!

I know, I know. Gordon Beckham sucks and Rodon will get his arm blown out or something.

A few days ago Bernstein went over a list of the best "prospect clusters" in baseball over the past 20-30 years (e.g., a few years ago, the Brewers had Fielder, Braun, Weeks, etc. coming up at the same time) and there were some pretty impressive groupings. To Bernstein's credit, he conceded that the scary common factor among them was that none of those teams ever won anything...which of course he will point to when the same happens with the Cubs.

As much as I like Marcus Semien he has pretty bad odds to be anything at the Major league level. That said, the Sox should give him a shot.

In other words, they need a shot of Semien

What constitutes a "prospect cluster"? Three prospects? Four?

The Giants had Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Lincecum, and Buster Posey all arrive within a few years of each other. All were highly rated prospects. I think that worked out pretty well for them, unless winning two WS titles doesn't count as winning anything...

Yeah, you're right...it's possible he limited it to position players, but I can't remember.

If I know Bersie, he probably limited it to an incredibly small sample size that conveniently supports the conclusion that he is advocating.

That was the strange thing -- as I listened to him set up and then go through the article, I thought he was trying to show support for why The Plan was certain to be a success. But when he got to the end, I was thinking to myself that those teams he listed never won. And then he said pretty much the same thing ("uh-oh, you know what's scary about this?..."). So based on his propensity to carry water for Theo, I think he realized too late that the article actually worked against him. He then tried to say that those teams never won because they were predominantly small-market clubs that couldn't hold on to their players and the Cubs wouldn't have that issue.

How about Baez? Still K'ing every other AB? The one guy who hasn't looked totally hopeless has a serious rage problem and an even worse injury history.

You're all getting played by Ricketts. "Hey Cubs fans! Come be excited by my cheap, bad team because there are young guys who can't play coming up!" I see a lot of Reinsdorf hate here, much of it justified, but at least Jerry doesn't string Sox fans along with this chickenshit prospect crap while simultaneously raping the one redeeming quality of the Cubs franchise (Wrigley).

In two years when this big prospect gambit has clearly failed Ricketts will enter into phase two of his plan: Crying poor and guilting Cubs fans into supporting his corporate white washing of everything Cubs.

Spot on. Bryant will be yet another busted prospect.

He looks like he has to be about 6' 6"!!

That was a monster game he had for himself last nite. And the Cubs needed it, too.

He might be right. Bryant only has 47 HR's and 156 RBI's in a year and a half.

You can say that again. Arrieta couldn't hold that "juggernaut" Reds team down! Sort of scary.
