The Bronco chase was one of my first recollections.

I do remember seeing Robert Shapiro as the lead counsel initially and then Cochran coming in later. I remember wondering why they would do that... then when he said "if the glove doesn't fit, you must acquit", I was like "oooohhh, that's why." This dude is good.

My mom loved O.J. and she became obsessed with the whole thing. For a long time she insisted he was innocent, but eventually she knew that he so obviously did it. So then she just changed her stance to "I don't care about Ron and Nicole. I like O.J."

She should have cited his stellar work in the Naked Gun series.

Yeah, probably not. Black Americans have good reason not to trust the authorities, but I think most black people knew he did it. They just didn't care. How many white guys killed black people without going to prison in this country?

Eddie Goldstein and I once snuck out of North Star and killed three Somalians who were praying while on break from the Jenni-O Plant down the road. Does that count?

I was in middle school, and I remember my teacher stopping the class and then a teacher running through the halls yelling that "the juice was loose".

Probably not the most professional thing to do.

Of course. Didn't he write a book about how he actually did it?

That's the funniest line in the O.J. mini-series. When Darden is barbecuing in his backyard and chiding his neighbor for rooting on O.J. during the Bronco chase, saying he was no Jim Brown and he's not even black and the guy turns to him and says, "He's being chased by the police. He's black now!"

I didn't watch the documentary, but didn't something like 70% of the African-American population think OJ was framed/innocent?

I think it polled that way, but my guess is that's because nobody really wanted to tell a reporter or pollster that they wanted a murderer to go free just to show whitey what it feels like.

I don't know about 70%, but on the record back then, I may have allowed some outsider to believe I felt he'd been framed. I, like most in the community have never really trusted pollsters or much of the media anyway. Plus it was kind of pointless to argue it around the community. Especially the community loudmouths who "knew" he had to have been framed

I will say this though, the way the evidenced was "collected", "processed" and "analyzed" did lead to a lot of questions. Especially after the truth about the star cop witness (Fuhrman) came out.

My wife took a class in Forensics just as it was becoming big. A lot of the subject matter was basically what they did wrong in that trial. From the sounds of it basically the whole field was started again from scratch with it basically being "Do the opposite of what they did in the OJ trial".

They said if he had done it a few years later he gets convicted very quickly.

I have to say, that if I were on the jury, Fuhrman invoking his Fifth Amendment rights on the question, "Did you plant the glove?" is probably enough reasonable doubt.

Well if the show CSI had been around they probably at least get a hung jury. I don't think there was any chance that jury was convicting him.

Absolutely. The entire case was messed up. There was plenty of room for reasonable doubt.

That's what was ultimately the most comical about the actors in that play. (Edit: Fuhrman even looked like an idiot discussing his long ago choices in answering questions in that trial.)

But I did feel for Ron Goldman's family. The innuendo that their child/brother was banging Nicole was enough for some not to trivialize about him & their loss, when all he did was attempt to deliver the boss' gf her glasses. I still question every other player's motives...except OJ's lawyers. Except for Shapiro & Kardashian, they knew & did their jobs.

That actually was a big part of the community's problem with that case & our own experiences. Many Americans like to believe in the integrity of the police and public advocates/attorneys. Many of us never really have, some understandably never will, even with the "improvements" in the area of forensics.

Hell, just in my lifetime you've had the Black Panthers in this city slaughtered by the CPD while sleeping, an entire block blown up in Philly by the "authorities", the CIA facilitating heavy drug trafficking in our communities, and countless instances of police abuse, misconduct and evidence tampering. Hell, many still believe that the Atlanta child murders of the early 80's had a police component to them. And they really make a few compelling points. But prior to OJ, many people not of color would have called us nuts for feeling that way.

I still laugh about the first time I was misidentified as a defendant by the arresting officer in a case that solely relied upon eyewitness testimony. The cop's embarrassment was one thing, but the Asst. State's Attorney's arrogant attempts to clean it up were hilarious, and then insulting on so many different levels. But that kind of careless police/state's attorney/crime lab careless ineptitude/arrogance is more common than you would believe. Then and now.

That crowd outside the courthouse was poised. The cheers scared the horses when the verdict was read. It was some kind of "vindication". To think LA, or even every major municipality in the country wouldn't have been up for grabs if he would have been found guilty is a very optimistic perspective...

you see the same reactions from people every day....when they're called out to be the next contestant on The Price Is Right.

Put a TV camera on someone and it changes / exaggerates their behavior.

I was living in as inner city as inner city gets at the time,"meh" and a chuckle was the most prevalent response from those without cameras in their faces. Black, white, brown, et al.

I'm just relating one person's personal experience. Not regurgitating some skewed, overly dramatic interpretation of events presented by ESPN-NFL and Papa Johns. People really got into the OJ trial. Yes. People really got into watching the Gulf War. People also really got into the Sopranos. And LOST.

Surprised more people didn't riot after the LOST finale.

had dvr'd this and finally got around to watching this over the last week. i was in middle school during the trial so a lot of the information presented was new to me. producers have to be disapointed they couldnt convince chris darden to participate, but otherwise I found it to be well done and fascinating.

This series really cleaned up during the Emmy's. Was happy to see some of the main actors walk off with hardware. I thought it was extremely well done
and would probably watch it again.
