regardless i remember michael coming out with #23 the next game like DAAAAAAAAAMN! still tho i think they went on to lose that series b4 absolutely teabagging the magic next season.

edit = exact quote was "Number 23, he could just blow right by you! Number 45, he revs up, but doesn't really take off." --- oh yeah file that under AFI for "Asking For It"

Saints/Bears NFC Championship. The result of that game was never in doubt.

I went to a Rockies/Phillies game in Denver a few years ago and squirrel ran loose in the OF for like 10 minutes with all these security people trying to helplessly corral it.

I was at that iguchi game!

That game was over the moment Bush did his backflip.

i'll always remember that one. i had flown out to NYC with the baseball uncle because that weekend (~sept 13th? 2008) both the mets and yankees were home so we managed to get tickets for shea on saturday and old yankee stadium on sunday (and the saturday/shea day ended up being a str8up doubleheader so we got 2 games with one ticket and johan santana started the first one... AND they gave us a free camo mets hat when we walked in, sunday @ OYS ended up being david price's MLB debut) --- and it was some kind of monsoon out here late-late-friday into sat/sun (which flooded the shit out of my basement). the white sox were home for sunday night baseball and smehow a cubs game had gotten moved up to milwaukee and it was going alongside the whitesox snb game.

we got back to the hotel after a sweltering afternoon out in the bleachers @ OYS ("family section" so no alcohol, it felt like 300 degrees out there, and ofc who the fuck puts a flagpole RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR SIGHTLINES?!) and as we flipped on ESPN zambrano was up in miller park doing his thing and we got to catch that game from like the 3rd-4th inning to the end (as ESPN was able to go away from the boring whitesox game and do live coverage of zambrano's no-hitter).

ahh yes it was one hell of a baseball weekend that i vaguely remember including a ~3am $93 cab from manhattan back to queens (hotel was walking distance from laguardia, and yeah i left the nightcap of the shea DH early to go out to manhattan to have a night out with my friend out there) and then at the end of it all there i was on like ~3hrs sleep thoroughly cooked blasting the hotel room AC on max watching my favorite damn pitcher throw a no hitter. que sera sera!

does anyone remember why that zambrano no hitter @ miller park was moved up there? rainout/makeup-game that couldnt be played at wrigley?

The game was supposed to be played in Houston, but there was an impending hurricane. Wrigley already had another event going on, so they played at Miller.

That game happened to be daughter's first Cubs game. Since we lived so far north, it was only an hour or so to get to the park. Plus the tickets were cheap in case my kid didn't want to stay late. Sure enough, Zambrano is in to the sixth inning with a no-hitter. No way we can leave. My kid was fucking pissed by that point and wanted to leave. Each time the Cubs were at bat, I took her up to the playground inside. Then she fought me the whole Astros half of the inning. In the ninth, everyone was on their feet cheering, so suddenly she thought it was the coolest thing ever.

My list isn't much better

1. Purdue over Kansas State in the Alamo Bowl- Drew Brees throws game winning touchdown with about 30 seconds to go

2. Purdue over Michigan State in 97- Purdue down 21-10 with about 2 minutes to go, Michigan State lines up for a field goal, gets blocked Purdue returns it for a touchdown, recover onside kick, score a touchdown and wins 22-21

3. Colts beat Patriots in 1995- Colts win 10-7 to clinch a playoff spot with Harbaugh as quarterback, and make in improbable run to AFC title game where almost beat the Steelers.

4. My WHite Sox won- White Sox beat the Cardianls 10-8 in extras in the McGwire-Sosa home run chase, went to see McGwire, White Sox down around 4 or 5 runs in the 9th, Albert Belle hits his 2nd home run to get close, then Ventura hits a game tying home run, then Ventura next at bat, hits the game winning home run.

5. Another Purdue game, but a loss- in 1998 at Notre Dame, Purdue up 9 with about 5 minutes to go, Notre Dame has a 4th and 10, I said to my dad this is it, Notre Dame converts and scores a touchdown on the play, then intercept Brees and about score a touchdown on the return, but kick a short field goal to win.

Will add, I was at today's WHite Sox game when they tied a record for most home runs in a loss

Man, I wish I could remember all the games like you guys do.

As recently mentioned, we went to Disco Demolition night purely by accident.

First new stadium Sox game in 1991 for me was Charlie Hough v Tom Cotton Candiotti, two knuckleball starters. Like 18 passed ball that game.

Western Michigan basketball beat DePaul at Kalamazoo while I was a student there. Blue Demons were ranked as I recall. I walked up to Milo Q. Hamilton who was doing play by play on WGN 9, and asked him for an autograph while they were still live at the end of the game...

My Grandpa went to all of the games of the 1945 World Series, Cubs v Tigers, in both cities. That, I would have remembered

Corey Maggete, Quentin Richardson, Joey Range, and Frank Williams. (And Lucas Johnson and Kevin Frey)

Last game at Soldier Field: playoff game vs Eagles with McNabb putting on a show. Anyone remember Ahmad Merritt?
Last game of that awful Bears season at the Memorial Stadium vs Tampa. Bears scored 0 and lost a game on 5 FGs.

That 98 class was the best high school class in my lifetime too. I was doing social work that yr and used to take a lot of the kids in our program to games. Whitney Young vs Fenwick at Northwestern. Whitney Young vs Peoria Manuel at Proviso West was big time. I think there were 13-15 kids ranked in the top 100 from the state. Williams, Magette, Richardson were ranked top 10 nationally. McDonald's all americans. That was a helluva year.

Joey Range is a blast from the past. I think he dropped 60 in a high school game as I remember. Didn't make a lot of noise at Iowa but he had juice in high school.

1. Game Two of the World Series. The Konerko Grand Slam made the stadium shake. Sat next to two guys from Houston who were scared for their lives. They sang Deep in the Heart of Texas when Houston tied the game. Then scurried away as soon at the Pods home run was confirmed by playing Don't Stop Believing.

2. Eastern Conference Finals 2010 Game 1. Sure seemed like the Bulls had the Heat after that.

3. Bears beat Jacksonville to clinch division in 2001. Keith Traylor interception return was an odd mix of people going crazy and laughter.

4. AJ-Barrett Fight.

5. Tie: Opening Day 2005 1-0 win. And Game One of the ALDS over Boston

Honorable mention this year: NFL Draft. Ditka started smoking on stage, and then fell backwards because he was so drunk. Had to be carted off by his handlers. Kyle Long got in a fight with a fan and started to chase after him.

Yep. City-Suburban Shootout at Northwestern. Here is the link.

I grew up just outside of Galesburg. He was a phenom. If I remember correctly, he dropped at least 50 as a freshman or sophomore. The gym used to be absolutely packed when he was in school.

MANY would have argued that he was the most talented of that bunch (I wouldn't - I thought Maggette was the most physically gifted). He had a very raw talent, and he would have had to develop some type of specialized game like Quentin did shooting 3's later in his career. By all accounts, he didn't work real hard, so I doubt it ever would have happened, but he had NBA talent. I think he lives in Galesburg and weighs like 800 pounds now.

That Galesburg team took Whitney Young for all they could handle. They had Range, and before Range's senior year, they recruited Rod Thompson, and the point guard, Steve Glasgow was decent as well.

That was a great year to watch.

I saw Range once in high school. Can't remember where. I just remember him as a 6'6 guy that did a lot of stuff around the basket. Not really skilled but bigger than most high school kids. He did score a lot.

I think the most skilled of that group was Frank Williams but Maggette was a freak athlete that did have game. That class was deep as hell. Bobby Simmons, Late Michael Wright, Lance Williams, and some other guys that I can't think of came out that yr too.

This is the all-chicagosportsfan.com/chicagofanatics.com list:

1. SHARK bowling, with BITE! Came with a Kyle Orkman jersey and no undershirt. A thing.

2. Krazy Ivan unable to block my shot at Hoops. I think he said something like NOT IN MY HOUSE!

3. Chair tossing into the fire at the Darksides.

1. Bears V Seahawks Playoffs OT 27-24 1/15/07 - Sat first row endzone and say Thomas Jones score a touchdown right in front of us. Berrian scores on a 68 yard TD (I was in the pssr) Games ended with a Gould FG going into my endzone.
2. Bears V Falcons Freezing ass cold night game, temp was at -6 at kick off. Remember my beer was frozen walking from the councourse to my shit seats in the upper bowl. Memorable watching Mike Vick quit a game in the first quarter. Orton was completely ineffective in the first half, and Grossman started the second half. The only offensive play of the game was 25 yard game to Mushin over the middle shortly after Rex can in and the place went nuts.

There was a 3 year space starting in 2006 where George McCaskey would sell me tickets at face value and he would set me up in the front of the end zone. He saw me on TV holding an "America Hates the Packers" sign during a Cubs game summer of 2006 and at a preseason bears in game in 2007. I brought the sign to the blowout night game against the seahawks and an usher grabs me and pulls me into the stadium. He calls into his walkie talkie, George, we got him. He took my ticket info and told me to go to my seat. I was drunk and confused as fuck at this point, and had no clue what was going on. I thought I was being kicked out of the game. Usher says George wanted to find and meet me. First 2 games of the year, every usher in Soldiers field had a flyer with my picture on it (from the cub and bears game) saying "FIND THIS PERSON!"

Later in the game George walks all the way up to my seats to tell me he saw me at the Cubs game and it was the funniest thing he had ever seen. Gave his his card and told me to call him the next day.

In 2009 or 10 I tried bringing the sign to a Cardinals game in Stl. But that drunk bastard had to kill himself so the game was canceled.
