Almora contributing.

And Hinskie, what does he get paid? He just might have one of the best jobs in the world.

Got to give credit to the Hendry regime for drafting Contreras.

Maybe he doesn't develop under that old system, but both he and another Hendry pick (Baez) have really contributed this season.

I still hate the barrel though.

I don't see either of developing under Hendry. Baez would have been rushed up, given a years worth of at bats and then have been traded. I picture much of what happened to Pie. Also they would have never developed him to be versatile and field other positions.

Deshaies cracking me up today.

First he succinctly described the Reds' starting pitcher as having a "whole Ali G thing going on."

Then during a promotional read he said they would be giving away "Cubs ammo aprons" at the next home game (he meant camo).

You keep Almora up here for the rest of the season.

His defense out there is too valuable.

I bet he opts out regardless. I don't see him as a guy who wants to take a beating from the fans and media while sitting on a pile of cash.

I wish someone would tell him to stand on top of the plate like Rizzo. He seems like he stands almost outside of the box and can't do crap with anything middle to outside.

A note in regards to the pitcher/left-field hoe-down from Tuesday night ....

Rule 5.10(d) Comment (Rule 3.03 Comment): A pitcher may change to another position only once during the same inning; e.g. the pitcher will not be allowed to assume a position other than a pitcher more than once in the same inning.

He entered the ballgame as a left fielder.

Baez has proved to be a vastly better 2nd or 3rd compared to Bryant and Zobrist. Is there something to stop Madden from playing Baez at second or third depending on the batter being right or left handed and then moving Bryant or Zobrist to left field? It would be really annoying to watch, but I could see that being a much improved defense.

I think part of the deal for Zobrist was the "promise" that he would play a majority of his games at 2nd.

I saw that too, and that is likely the only thing keeping him out of LF. I was thinking more from a rules POV.

Thank you capt obvious.

It was just a related note from the rulebook in case anyone was wondering how often they could run a given player back and forth between LF and the mound.

Kieschnick finished with seven homers in 70 at bats and batted .300. That was a point higher than batters hit against him as he went 1-1 with a 5.26 ERA in 53 innings. In three games in left he made one error and didn't exactly impress. Said manager Ned Yost, "I told Kiesch if he drops another ball, I'm calling timeout and I'm going to pull his pants down and spank his bare butt."

Bernstein was beside himself that Jumbo Diaz threw at Bryant. "Bush League!" But then he goes on to say he would have been fine if Bryant had gone out for a curtain call, because "the Cubs fans in attendance were asking for it."

One is trying to hurt someone and the other isn't?

What's the issue?

They wouldn't be the same level of bush league, but they would still both be bush league (and Bryant, to his credit, refused to do it).

I didn't see the pitch, but can we know that Diaz intentionally threw at him? The umps didn't issue a warning.

Correct. He showed a lot in not doing the curtain call at an opponent's park.

I'd wager on the side that it was on purpose.

I'm in the Josh Donaldson camp on this one. It's crazy that someone can throw a projectile at someone on purpose and most people are cool with it.
