What's the ruling on this? Is it OK or not?

On the one hand, O.J is a horrible person since, ya know, he brutally murdered 2 people. But on the other hand, calling somebody an "Uncle Tom" is very offensive.

What do you guys think?

Why does this motivate you?

I'm not motivated by anything. He said it about 20 minutes ago, there was no show thread, so why not make it the title? Why not ask the question? It's a thought provoking question. I try to challenge CSFMB.

What motivates Goff to call somebody a "Tom". That's the better question. Cuz he also called Will Smith's character a "Tom" in that Golf movie. That's what led to the O.J comment.

Calling someone an 'Uncle Tom' is one of those quirky little echoes of this country's incredibly racist past. An 'Uncle Tom' is, traditionally, a black person acting overly subservient to a white person. Colloquially, though, I think the usage has come to be more of a derogatory slang for a black guy acting too "white" or having too many white friends and associates, and methinks that is Goff's usage-of-choice when he dusts off the phrase.

But I can't know for sure. Maybe he knows more about OJ's interactions with white people that should have been more even-keeled, but had OJ scraping and bowing. However, considering he murdered two white people for having a relationship he didn't want to happen, OJ didn't seem too subservient to anybody.

Yeah, Goff is the realest. He grew up on the mean streets of Englewood.... or was it Evanston?? And I suppose he made his bones in radio by learning from some black radio guys, you know like Dan and Terry.

Are you suggesting he never listened to WBMX/WVAZ or even WGCI?

I tuned in just long enough to hear Goff bumbling & stumbling over a sentence that probably lasted 3 minutes with no actual point. That was enough for me.

Listening to these two together it's evident that Goff respects Bernstein's intellect. He's less of a clown (like he is with Spiegel) and more like they guy that I enjoyed listening to when he was the producer of the show. I think we're listening to Terry's replacement. Goff switches over to team with Bernstein, they hire Rozner full time to do his Hit and Run thing with Spiegel- individually they all have their shortcomings, but these are the most actualized pairings possible.

Hey, I didn't say it was perfect. More of a: it's closing time and that chick at the end of the bar isn't looking so bad, type thing.

Sorry, but Goff has no business getting paid to talk on the radio. He's awful.

Yeah. That's what I predicted. Goff does think Bernstein is smart. Goff wants Bernstein to think the same way about him. He desperately wants his approval. Thus he doesn't "Act a fool" in front of him. For the most part.

Where as Goff has no respect for Spiegel. Goff thinks Spiegel is just a big white dope. Thus he behaves like a crazed, laughing, weird fool in that relationship.

O.J wouldn't think Goff is a good guy. He called him an "Uncle Tom" for the love of God.

He also uses "hell" far too often. It'd be helpful to crack a dictionary or hell purchase a

goff wasn't wrong. i mean yeah it's up to you if he's wrong for brandishing the term, but he wasn't wrong about OJ. murderer status notwithstanding, if you were gonna ever call anyone an uncle tom it'd be hard to find someone more deserving than OJ.

It does amaze me though. I mean if Goff called somebody an "Uncle Tom" while working for ESPN it would be national news. And he'd be fired. Same with a lot of other shit that SCORE people say. Like even Goff mocking Steph Curry for being a light skinned brother.

And I'm not saying it would be right. Just saying it would happen. But anything goes at the SCORE.

Bernstein would have been fired for his BOOBS comment had he said it while working at ESPN.

Not just ESPN. Have you ever heard of anybody calling somebody an "Uncle Tom" at any media outlet? Print, web, radio or TV? The answer is no cuz they know they'd be fired.

But this shit flies at the SCORE.

The OJ documentary had a whole section on how he didn't consider himself black and above those he was associating himself with. I think it's hardly a surprise to hear that particular insult used, particularly when it's directed at a guy pretty much the whole population views as guilty of murder.

The Steph thing was literally debated on ESPN when Jemele Hill ran an article about whether he receives more hate as a result of being light-skinned. And while he's never taken the bait to discuss that issue specifically, Bomani Jones has consistently been pointing out how ridiculous it is that Curry gets labeled as "humble" when he struts after every. single. three. compared to the vitriol that Cam Newton received during the NFL season. None of which is to say that Goff is in the right but the idea of a conversation like this being out of bounds at ESPN is silly.

To conclude, I'm the real loser for seriously responding to a Beardown post on race.

RACE is important to discuss.

I don't listen to or read the people you talked about. But I stand corrected if other people in media are calling people "Tom's" or discussing the fact that Steph is light skinned.

But I would bet those people discuss it in an intelligent way. I mean just a guess. Not the way Goff mocks Steph Curry.

"This is really, really, really about race" was an old standby for making fun of Laurence, but man, no one in Chicago is more obsessed with other people's blackness than Jason Goff.

Yeah. It's quite something with Goff.

You have to think when he enters a party or a bar, he literally counts the Blacks, Whites, Asians and Mexicans. Why? Cuz he wants to know the count of each race. It's important to him. Cuz he's always thinking about race. Non stop. Cuz he's insane.

If you played a Goff drinking game...taking a drink every time he says "yeah"....or "yeah, yeah yeah".....in his fucking stupid ass deep tone...you'd be stoned drunk within 10 minutes. I think he gets a little worse everyday. I listen very little these days though...more AM1000

I assume you're implying Beardown resides outside of Chicago.
