isn't this what makes the NBA work tho, Lakers-Celts in the 80's. Bulls in the 90's. Lakers again. Now, barring injury, we'll finish out this decade with Warriors-Cavs.

He will play in GS for one year. Then, he and Westbrook will go to the Lakers.

The salary cap appears to be a failed concept in the NBA. It encourages super teams rather than dismantling them.

So 26 teams are shitty garbage and then the fans are stuck waiting until May to watch compelling ball.

Great stuff

The problem is max contracts. Because there's a salary ceiling, top players don't have to sacrifice as much of their potential earnings if they want to play with their friends or join super teams.

It also encourages guys to go to cities that will enhance their brand. If the money is essentially the same then guys will invariably sign with teams that have increased off the court opportunities.

Agreed. Horrible design by NBA and NBPA of the salary structure. NBA is too busy fuddling around with draft percentages when compensation swings the league far more.

Yup. When the Cavs sign Westbrook next summer it'll really be on.

It's actually great design from the perspective of the owners and NBPA. The owners don't have to worry about getting into prolonged bidding wars for top of the line talent and crippling their teams in that way at least, and the system also redistributes money downwards for the union, as evidenced by the ridiculous contracts for role players this off-season. It only really sucks for the fans.

Neither does he.

And your assessment of this all sucking out loud is correct.

Chicago. It's why GarPax is dumping everyone.

Gar's gonna make his best free agent pitches ever next summer. It's his moment. Or if things don't work out 2018 will be his moment. Or 2019.

Sounds like Hinke with the draft.

Too bad Silver won't step in and fire GarPax.

I support this nomination.
Dan Bernstein loves his league of stars. I don't.
The NBA sucks.
