The problem is you don't understand why anyone would still be a Bears fan. However, you became a fan of the Vikings in the 90s because they were marginally good and yet you discount the Bears recent Super Bowl as not being a reason to be a Bears fan. It doesn't make sense.

By your very criteria about whether you should be a Bears fan or not, you should have dumped the Vikings a long time ago. They have undeniably been the worse franchise no matter how you try and spin it.

10 years ago is NOT recent. Robbie Gould is the only player still in the league from that team.

Marginally good?

In the late 90's they went 54-26 with five straight playoff appearances and two conference finals appearances.

Damn dude...you follow NFL less than I do.

Since I've been born...neither the Vikings nor the Bears have won a Super Bowl. I don't really care about before I was born.
Pick a timeframe then and lets discuss because you've gone from 4 years to your lifetime.

Pick a team and stick with that team through thick and thin.

Bandwagon fans who continually jump around to who is good or who has their favorite player are the ones who piss me off.

Suddenly they are a Colt fan...oh wait now a Bronco fan....A Cav fan...whoops now a Heat fan...oh wait now a Cav fan for life.

Warriors...Seahawks...Patriots...it is never ending.

And guess what I ran into someone the other day down here who I have know for several years and outta no where they got a Cubs hat. No, no, no, fuck that. Pisses me off. If you did not go through the Derrick May and Kevin Orie years, then you do not get to suddenly become a fan now.

To me you get one switch per sport assuming your team isn't local and moved away. Its kind of pointless to root for a team you don't have strong geographic ties to though. You are basically a fan of colors otherwise.

I root for chicago teams and then players on other teams. Its a nice balance.

I actually had to consider that when Reinsdorf was threatening to move the Sox. I damn sure wasn't going to be a Tampa White Sox fan and I really couldn't root for the Cubs. Unlike most Sox fans, I actually hate the Cardinals as much as I hate the Cubs, so that wasn't an option. I decided I could be a Tigers fan.

I don't mind people who are causal fans of certain teams because of a move or something like that. But to go all in and be suddenly this die hard fan with all the gear and stuff just makes you look stupid.

When I lived around the KC area, I developed a fondness for the Royals and Chiefs. Both of them were not very good during those years. I will always be a Cub and Bear fan no matter what, but I like the Royals and Chiefs, but you won't see me running around all decked out in their gear and saying we and us in reference to the teams.

Alright. You're pulling a Frank. I see that now, so this will be my final post on the subject.

I mentioned the late 1990's as that is when I became an NFL fan, and the Vikings are the reason why. So I became a Vikings fan. They were talented, and easy to follow.

Then you asked why I would remain a fan. Well, I don't bandwagon first of all. But more importantly, the team has never treated the fans like shit. They've tried to build contenders. They got close to winning with Favre several years ago. I appreciate that... sure there have been some bad years, but I've never had a period of a few years in a row where there was little hope. Like this Bears team is enduring. Which is the recent history you've mentioned.

Nice and concise for you. I have absolutely no desire to talk anymore about the NFL in July.

Kudos to you IMU for remaining a Viking fan in years where they have sucked monkey balls.

But why should Bears fans jump off the bandwagon, as you suggested earlier? This is why a time frame is important, and why you won't answer what that should be.

Even in the down years the Bears have had the past 4 years they aren't that far behind outside of Minnesota making and losing in a few wild card games.

You can't go back to when the Bears made the Super Bowl.

You can't go back to 2000 because they've been fairly similar with the Bears having the advantage that puts them over the top of making a Super Bowl.

So, basically, this comment is not supportable by a Vikings fan:
IMU wrote:
I'm not sure how anyone could be a true blue Bears fan with how little regard the team seems to have for the fans, and how little they seem to care about sustained success.

Glad we cleared it up and now you don't have to talk about your bad comment.

It's funny, as irritating as it is to see the throngs of ex-Detroit area folks descend upon the Cell like locusts, I like and respect them. Many seem to be good fans interested in good discussions/arguments and generally pretty nice people. Kind of like I thought most Hawk fans were at the Stadium/UC until recently.

Most (non native)Yankee fans are Cub level bad. There's really very little to respect imo. They have little passion for the game or their team, and just seem to do it because a chance at bragging rights for 27-28 rings say they should. And, just like many (not most) Cub fans, they were/are bandwagon jumpers there for the party. They never seem to do anything other than get loud and obnoxious, unlike their true fan counterparts who know the game and been consistent fans.

Packers makes sense. East coast teams do not.

Aren't most local Packers fans the die sox white fans of the sout side who reject the Bears as a a football counterpart to the Cubs and don't seem to care that the Chicago Cardinals have been gone for over 50 years?

Didn't the Vikings have one foot out the door for Los Angeles until the city and state gave them almost a billion dollars? Their ownership is better than the McCaskeys because it's hard to be worse, but let's not pretend they're exceptional in any way. Another rich guy who wants free money. At least the team doesn't lose all the time.

I think they've moved up here in the Libertyville/Gurnee/Zion/Kenosha corridor.

I don't necessarily have a problem with this as long as the guy admits to being a bandwagoner.

There have always been Packer fans in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. I'm sure I've mentioned the bar in Kenosha that would paint the door blue and orange or green and gold depending upon who had won the most recent game. The bar closed and they knocked the building down. The winter after that some Packer fans got a door and framed it up in the middle of the empty lot and painted it green and gold.

What was it gonna be, A's to Chicago to replace the White Sox, Sox to Milwaukee to replace the Braves, and a third team in there moving to the East Bay?

Back when I was young, you were lucky to watch 8 Bear games a year because of the sold out or blacked out NFL rules. I grew up watching a lot of Raider games when they had guys like Daryle LaMonica & George Blanda. So nowadays,I also root for my 2nd favorite team,"the Raida's"!
