I wonder if this guy had a criminal record or was he a "law abiding citizen"? My money is on him having a criminal record. Probably a history of negative interactions with police. Blacks tend to view police as their adversary and not their compatriot. There isn't a sense of community between blacks and police. Police rightly or wrongly, are viewed as the protectors of the state and not the people. The antagonism will continue as long as the perception persists.

Pretty amazing stats on police shootings: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics ... shootings/

Making this purely a racial issue as BLM has is dishonest . Police shoot plenty of people of all races.

I don't think it should be relegated to who they shoot. Racial profiling and the disproportionate (in the eyes of some) number of blacks that are locked up plays into this also.

That perception exists because it's the truth. The statement is to protect and serve, but that begs the question who exactly? (spoiler alert it's people with $$$)

They ARE the protectors of the state and only tangentially, of the people.

It would seem that, in a very vague sense, cops and umpires/refs are similar in that if you are aware of their names, it's likely that they're not doing their job well.

They will shoot you for anything in California. Jesus Christ that's a lot of fatal police shootings for one state. Texas has a lot, too, but only half as many as California. Take those two states out of it and the rest are much, much less.

LA hardly has any cops. They just cruise through town and shoot people to make them aware of their existence.

I mean, you have to cut them some slack to the police in Cali, especially LA. Between the smog, the heat, the traffic, the noise, and God knows what else, it's basically impossible, for example, to tell the difference between a big black guy driving a Nissan Titan from two Chinese broads in a Toyota Tacoma ... what's an obviously level-headed, not to mention well-trained, cop to do except for unload at least two full clips blindly into the first truck they see?

I thought that BLM was about police shootings. The movement tries to make it seem like the police are only targeting and killing black people. The stats show something different. I am guessing that class level is probably a better indicator of being targeted by the police. Seems like some pretty bad policy to only focus on 27 percent of police shooting victims, if reducing police violence is the goal.

I think if they had considered the name of their movement more carefully and had decided on 'Black Lives Matter Too' (or, perhaps better still, 'All Lives Matter'), a great deal of the insipid invective might well have not come about ... not to suggest it would've cancelled all the rhetoric, but I think it would've been very beneficial in thwarting enough of the simpletons to make it worthwhile.

The statistics in the link show blacks as 25% of the population killed by police. Total black population in US is half that.

Speaking of Cali, a friend of mine who just moved out there from here was walking out of job interview a couple days ago. She and her son walked across the street to get something to drink...she was feeling pretty good about things. Out of nowhere, a cop walks up to her and tells her she just broke the law. He actually wrote her a $60 ticket for jaywalking. FOR FUCKING JAYWALKING!

Yes, she's black and I believe 100% that her blackness had something to do with her getting written up.

Haven't listened much in the last year, but Adam Carolla used to regularly harp on the LAPD for their tendency to spend their shifts ambushing ordinary citizens--black, white, brown, whatever race--with bullshit tickets for things like jaywalking, or parking on a hill without turning their wheels into the curb, or doing 5 over the limit etc.

the Adam and Dr Drew Show eps with Theo Von sitting in for Dr Drew are worth a listen.

as is Theo Von's 'Allegedly' podcast.

WGN played a cellphone video on the news last night from the Dallas shooting and the guy in the video dropped the F bomb. Then, a few minutes later Mark Supplesa told the people who were calling that it was live TV and that it happens sometimes.

What are the percentage of police interactions with each race? And how many of the people shot by police were known criminals that have had regular interactions with the police. I am guessing that people shot by the police likely have had multiple interactions, and that it's like playing Russian Roulette.

When I look at those stats it more looks like the police have a violence problem rather than this divisive racial conspiracy. Are there racist cops? I am sure there are. But BLM are seriously spreading the idea that the times are just as bad now as they were 50 years ago. That does not help anything, and if people feel like they are helpless, it leads to violence.

50 years ago, many more police departments were more openly hostile and typically acted with more impunity to some. Many still do. It's still just as indefensible. Most believe that 35 years ago, many started getting the clocks turned back to those days of yesteryear. BLM is more accurate than you would like to believe, imo.

It's funny. There's been talk of an impending "war" of sorts brewing. What most of those folks don't seem to appreciate is that many (myself included) believe that much of the "war" never ended.
