This Cub team is still in the driver's seat and you expect a slump from any team in a 162 game schedule. The thing that is scary is the SP which always seems to be a Cub strength in recent times is really faltering.

While Theo's "plan" was to build up the hitting in the farm system and worry about pitching through trades and free agency,so where is the help coming from right now?

If this Cub team does a full collapse, what should Ricketts do next?

Is a contract for Theo still in the works?

Should Maddon have the guys all walk out of the clubhouse wearing just jockstraps while a midget and a penguin lead the way in a parade?

jimmypasta - come back in off the ledge. It's going to be okay. This is a solid team that has played outstanding baseball this season... granted, not lately.

The All-Star Break is exactly what they need right now. Even though many Cubs will be playing in the game, the stress is off for a while.

R-E-L-A-X. You're going to be fine, paisan.

Please. This is just a run of the mill Cubs collapse.

You get 2 of these a decade.

Slumps happen.

As long as they get into the playoffs is all that matters and they are certainly still in good shape to do that.

It's better they slump now then in October.

I'm an optimist, Doc - I have faith.

"This is the year."

I am 51% White Sox fan & 49% Cubs fan.

The Cubs will see a World Series Championship very soon.

I will gladly push Jim Belushi off the bus during the parade to make room for you authentic diehards.

You guys deserve it.

I have to apologize. I was super excited to see a 1977 Cubs mult when I read that.

But you seem like a real person.

No they won't.

I made my peace with that after 2004.

I used to feel bad when I was in my 20s about stories of people dying without ever seeing the Cubs get to the World Series. I knew I would see it. Just...odds.

I'm OK with it not happening now.

You are all depressing. Cubs will still win like 95+ games... they're just being super streaky about how they get there.

I'm generally a pessimist when it comes to the Cubs, but as long as they make the playoffs, they have as good a shot as they did before.

However, the way they're playing now, I'm not sure...

Sorry if that upsets you, IMU.

I can't accept that, Doc. I'm sorry. Yes, I could be like Paulie in the Rocky movies and be mentally irregular?

In my FanCave at work, I have the front page of The Trib with all the recent team's championships on the wall. There are 5 spaces and 1 is noticeably blank. I take a lot of ribbing but it's okay. One day, if I ever crack, I will design a faux Trib front page just so I can see my vision complete.

For the record, I'm still on board.

I just have zero expectations. I still take, as a given, they will make the playoffs due to the bonus network options at the least.

I never doubted the level of your Cubdom, Doc and others. Your optimistic-skepticism is warranted.

Last fall was an exciting time in the city for baseball.

I still carry that excitement over and can't wait to see what happens this year.

I really expect to see both teams make the post season.

Not sure how far they will both go but I do think the Cubs will at least go to the NLCS again and hopefully all the way.

That's really cool.

I've got 3 in a drawer. I should frame those up.

I've got the DePaul Final Four one, too. I need to do something with that.

They are playing bad in all phases: SP,RP,Defense, clutch hitting, etc.

Suddenly,Joe's wacky moves don't look so cute anymore.

Bryant should stay at 3rd or LF where ever he's better.

Enough of this "supersub" bullshit!

Maddon want's a roster full of Paul Popovich-type guys.

On a different note,I was always too shy to bother Ray Meyer for a pic or autograph.
At one DePaul game,he was sitting right in front of me and I also bumped in to him at my church. Good Guy.

They were good friends. I think Maddon is a very sharp baseball man but this constant position moving doesn't help the young kids.

Tom Ricketts is getting even more obscenely wealthy than he already was, if that is any consolation.

So when the year ends, it should just be pointed out that myself, IMU, and Godfella will be the only ones allowed to enjoy the victory.

The rest of you are terrible people, worthy of scorn from now unto the end of time. Never has it been a more poignant punishment that you should all have to put paper bags over your heads to hide your shame.
