This team has been awful for a month now. The starting pitching is getting bad, and the bullpen is terrible. The few games they're leading, they blow. The offense has been shit also. They have given up on the patient approach they had early in the season. The walk totals have dropped big time. While the lead is still decent, they have allowed the Pirates back in it. A Pirates sweep and shit gets real.

Theo needs to step up and deal for a starter and 2 bullpen arms. Another bat wouldn't hurt either, but I want pitching.

The starting pitching was so good in the first 2 months of the season that there was going to be a correction of sorts. I still wouldn't be overly concerned. The Pirates, with that starting rotation, is going to be hard pressed to make a run and the Cardinals don't appear to be anything more than a decent team. Cubs may be able to coast their way to 90+ wins and still win the division easily.

Obviously, a sweep would put Pittsburgh within striking distance, but, going back to my first point, that's still a bad rotation.

Cubs are fine for now, but they may (or should) be in the market if a starting pitcher of top quality (Archer?? seems unlikely) hits the market. This isn't a good market for starting pitching and it's hard to improve upon what they have unless someone becomes available.

I think the bullpen is still the most likely area they will add too with OF being a 2nd option.

Cubs have the fight back in them the past 3 games. Rizzo showing the fire. Heyward getting hits.

Cubs are about to go on a tear. Cubs will have a 10 game division lead on August 1st.

I need Maddon/Theo/Jed/Cubs to explain what's the point of Tommy LaStella.

I don't like it either. Probably hope to trade him.

Pirates also have fight in them.

It would be nice if, in addition to the fight, they had pitching.

No doubt about it, this team has sucked the last little bit.

But better to happen now than later in the season. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise and force them to make some moves at the trading deadline to shore up the problem areas. If things were cruising along they might have been tempted to just let things ride.

Need to come out strong these next 2 games and get to the break with some positives.

The Cubs offense is going to show up this weekend vs. Pittsburgh pitching. They can still lose these games, but I would expect the Cubs offense to up 5+ in both weekend games.

One for one, but I didn't expect Lester to be this bad for a 2nd consecutive start.

What the hell is in Maddon's head? Warren pitches Wednesday, throws 93 pitches. Brings him in on Saturday, throws 64 pitches and gets shellacked.

Too early to panic, that's why the entire season starts where they they won 35 of their 50 (or so), creating a huge cushion now for this extended period of mediocre play. Pittsburgh though has an opportunity to make this a race going into the 2nd half. Big game tomorrow for them heading into the break.

Well I am sure the rest of the national broadcast audience shared Kasper's over the top emotion that Rizzo missed the cycle in a 12-6 game.

Rizzo is a face of the MLB. People care. It is a story.
