I actually like Rozner--until he does his whiny fan schtick. He's an acquired taste, no doubt, but he's not without intelligence. Can be very funny, too, but sometimes his humor falls flat.

Rozner tends to get worse the more you consume. What you soon realize is that he has a very narrow set of jokes with a rinse repeat philosophy on using them. It is the exact same way in his print column. What's worse is that he plays the same themes in his columns and spins any issue to his own bias.

For instance, he hates Gary Bettman with a passion, and I think most NHL fans have the same view. But he just wrote a poor Blackhawks salary cap column, and of course the spin is that the entire thing is Bettman's fault. Yes, Bettman is the reason the Canadian dollar fell so much or that players want to suck up a huge portion of one team's cap.

He has it out for the Bears. He loves the Cubs regime and will chide anyone who doesn't believe in the Plan (lots of straw men).

He hated Lovie Smith, and so he could never objectively assess his performance. Any time the Bears won a game, it was because the of other team making mistakes. If the Bears lost, it was all Lovie's fault.

I am ok with having a strong opinion. But it clouds every column he writes. And he brings the same bad lines day in day out.
This from the guy that likes Kap and Bigfan's new board.

disco definitely had it's moments. but, like everything in life, it's subject to what i call "the george carlin theory of relativity"

Rozner is an idiot. He was saying a bunch of dumb Cub fan stuff on Hit and Run, but yeah, he's not a Cub fan. What if the Cubs win 110 games and they have to face a 92 win Boston team in the Worls Series without home field advantage because the Cub dominated NL All-Stars lost? As if the best record ever got home field advantage. And never mind that 92 AL wins is probably better than 110 NL wins. What percentage of Cub homers have come off Reds pitching?

Before rewarding the league that won the all-star game home field advantage in the WS, they used to alternate year to year. I'd be fine if they switched it to the team with the best record, but all these "experts" complaining about the current format probably have no idea what it was before.

That would be a worse way to do it than using the All Star Game though. You're gonna reward some NL team for pounding the Reds. How about whichever league has the better interleague record? But of course, that doesn't help the Cubs.

Yesterday Bernstein said that "some Cubs fans" are rooting for the AL to win so the Cubs get an extra game with a DH.

Yeah, I'm sure the Cubs are more prepared to play with a DH than the best team in the AL is.

I believe Rozner told him that is overthinking things.

In his DH article, Rozner claimed that hockey and basketball "do it right". Slight irony there because Bettman never does anything right according to Rozner, but I digress.

While I agree the All Star game is a silly way to decide, it was quite arbitrary before as well as noted above. But the best record thing is also quite arbitrary because the team with the better record may not have even played its opponent during the regular season. How is that fair? As JORR notes, there is too much imbalance to make that a fair way either.

So we're down to the fact that it's just not going to be fair no matter how it's done. It's arbitrary in every case. You might as well make it the league that won the prior World Series. At the end of the day, it's not all that significant. I think it's dumber to play 162 games to decide the best teams, and then have a one game playoff for a slot.

It will not be long until the Tribune starts a Schwarber watch, anticipating that he will come back this year to play in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, everyone acts like that guy was some finished product. Just plug in and play.

Douchebag Rozner was on Hit and Run Sunday talking about Soler and said "not every prospect is like Bryant, Russell or Schwarber", as if one of those guys is not and has not been dramatically different than the other two from the beginning. Russell and Schwarber are much more closely related to Soler than to Bryant.

I didn't hear the show yesterday, but I'm sure bernstein's take is that "Disco Sucks" was some anti-gay, anti-black, anti-Latino movement. That wasn't true. It was just guys that liked smoking weed and listening to Zeppelin.

It was the social/sexual realization that the ladies like to dance and have a good time, suddenly the guys look up and realize that they're at a sausage gathering and blamed disco for taking away the ladies. To

Disco was gay?

I'm glad I was too young to know or care about the 70s. It seems like a decade of cheesiness filled with nothing of lasting value.

AL teams have always preferred facing a DH to facing the average NL pitcher three times as game as well.

Yeah we probably should just give the homefield to the AL permanently.

It's fun to look up how the Cubs "all star" infield stacks up against the AL infield.
