know how during the Brexit vote, Italians were all panico over prosecco because it is / was one of their biggest exports to the UK?

Asked a british couple what was up with prosecco and the UK's appetite for it. I guess about 4-5 years ago, prosecco came on the scene over there among what we'd call yuppies, replacing cava in their shopping "trolleys". Since then, like burberry and wearing jewelry and listening to post-1993 hip-hop, it's been co-opted/adopted/aped by the lower classes of Scotland ("NEDs") and England ("chavs") as their main-stay non-lager/cheap vodka/non-snakebite drink. Hence the spike in imports of the stuff from Italy to the UK.

Pubs over there now have "all you can eat/drink pizza and prosecco" specials, if anyone wants to take a trip to the UK.
